Abstract

A support for the arms of a runner comprises a yoke which passes over the neck or across the shoulder, lengths of resilient material attached to each end of the yoke and supports for the wrists or hands attached to the free ends of the resilient material. The yoke can be incorporated in a running vest.

Description

SUPPORTS FOR THE ARMS OF RUNNERS The invntirn proposes to solve the problem of an athlete who is mainly a distance n'nner,or just a fitness jogger. In these pastimes the weight of hands and arms, particularly forearms in the mainly horizontal position is a taxing use of energy particularly for men with big hands and well developed arms, the invention proposes to relieve this weight so that the arm muscles can relax and therefore require less oxygen. A yoke around the back of the neck or across the shoulders supports a length of elastic or spring (elastic or spring are deemed to be the same in all following details ) at each side at the base the ends of which are looped around each wrist to keep the forearm in the horizontal position, or that angle which the athlete finds personally comfortable the ends of the elastic supports could be attached to gloves, mittens, or similar devices that each hand fits into. Various well known adjustments for the extension lengths for various chosen arm angles could be used, one would be various holes in a tape attached to the yoke with buckles or hooks for tne suspended elastic could be one of many available methods, a running vest could compose a further innovation of the invention with inset shoulder or neck yoke built into it with ha.nging straps attached as mentioned before, in the case of shoulder attachment straps could be to the front or side of shoulders, this shoulder width support could be the most suitable for the broader shouldered athlete as it would support the arms in a more suitable plane instead of drawing them inwards as would a neck yoke support. The length and adjustment of the correct tension is only possible for each athlete by trial and error testing whilst running, several strands of elastic material of say O()grams supported weight at say a stretched point of 30cm could be used and individually clipped in place on each side, an athlete may find 3 of them would suit on the left for a total of 1500grams, 4 on the right with 2()00g.rams the watflit.
and measures are only mere examples. With easy release clips an athlete could adjust whilst running, when athletes find their exact requirenients single elastic could be supplied say z5COgrPms supported at a length of 3Ocm, should an athlete fall whilst running the invention allows them to stretch out their arms to sa-.e injury. If this device should be outlawed by sport bodies it could still be useful for jogging or training.
