Abstract
A clothes hanger support (1) comprises a one-piece plastics moulding comprising a first portion (2) for engagement between a headrest of a seat of a vehicle and the top of the backrest of the seat and a second portion (3) extending from the first portion. The second portion extends upwards from the first portion and behind the headrest when the first portion is engaged between the headrest and the top of the backrest of the seat and provides at its end remote from the first portion means (7,8,10) for receiving a clothes hanger.
Description
A CLOTHES HANGER SUPPORT
The present invention relates to a clothes hanger support, in particular a support for engagement with a seat of a vehicle.
Especially in cars, there is a need to hang articles from a hanger. For example, many cars provide hooks which allow a clothes hanger to be hung at a side of the cars' interior. However, clothes hung in that way can obscure the view through the cars' windows (this can be unsafe) and there can be insufficient space below the hooks to allow longer clothes to be hung fully vertically.
According to the present invention, there is provided a clothes hanger support comprising a one-piece plastics moulding comprising a first portion for engagement between a headrest of a seat of a vehicle and the top of the backrest of the seat and a second portion extending from the first portion, the second portion extending upwards from the first portion and behind the headrest when the first portion is engaged between the headrest and the top of the backrest of the seat and the second portion providing at its end remote from the first portion means for receiving a clothes hanger.
The present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of one example of a clothes hanger support according to the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the clothes hanger support;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the clothes hanger support; and
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the clothes hanger support.
Referring to the drawings, a clothes hanger support comprises a one-piece ABS plastics moulding 1 with an overall height of about 26mm. Moulding 1 comprises a first portion 2 dimensioned and shaped for engagement between a headrest of a seat of a car and the top of the backrest of the seat and a second portion 3 extending from portion 1. First portion 1 comprises, more particularly, a base portion 4 the bottom of which, in use, rests on the top of the backrest and a projecting portion 5 whose top bears against the underside of the headrest. Portion 4 carries on its underside ribs 6 for improving engagement with the top of the backrest and preventing slipping.
Second portion 3 terminates in an end portion 7 which has a flange portion 8 in which there is a slot 9, there being a pair of slots 10 defined between flange 8 and the tops of side portions 11 of end portion 7.
In the drawings, radii of edges of the support are not shown, but in practice, all intersecting edges should have an outside radius of 3.5mm minimum and all open edges should have a full radius of 1.25mm on 2.5mm material.
In use of the support, the first portion 2 is engaged between the top of the backrest of a car seat and the underside of a headrest of the seat, portion 4 engaging the top of the backrest and portion 5 engaging the underside of the headrest, with portion 3 extending upwards from portion 2 behind the headrest. In each of the slots 10 a respective clothes hanger may then be suspended at the rear of the backrest by engaging the hook of the clothes hanger in slot 10, the weight of the clothes hanger and any clothing on it acting to pivot portion 3 slightly rearwards and thereby reinforce the engagement of portions 4 and 5 with the top of the backrest and the underside of the headrest of the seat respectively. Also, an article of clothing may be suspended at the rear of the backrest directly from flange 8 by engaging a hanging loop of the article with the flange via slot 9 or a clothes hanger may be suspended at the rear of the backrest by engaging the hook of the hanger in slot 9.
Claims (4)
1. A clothes hanger support comprising a one-piece plastics moulding comprising a first portion for engagement between a headrest of a seat of a vehicle and the top of the backrest of the seat and a second portion extending from the first portion, the second portion extending upwards from the first portion and behind the headrest when the first portion is engaged between the headrest and the top of the backrest of the seat and the second portion providing at its end remote from the first portion means for receiving a clothes hanger.
2. A support according to claim 1, wherein the underside of the first portion has rib means for use in engaging with the top of such a backrest.
3. A support according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the receiving means provides a slot for receiving the hook of a clothes hanger.
4. A clothes hanger support, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
