Abstract

A lamp holder with integral touch sensitive switch that comprises of a casing (C1,C2) and a touch sensor ring (E) together with the bayonet section (B) and the base cap (D), form the body of the device. Inside the body is situated an electronic control circuit which has one or more light emitting diodes (LED) which protrude through the casing. When the device is mounted, a filament lamp inserted and connected to the mains, the light emitting diode(s) indicate that the device is on. One momentary touch of the sensor ring (E) will turn the lamp on, and another off. A prolonged touch will adjust the brightness of the lamp.

Description

INTEGRAL LAMP HOLDER AND TOUCH SENSITIVE SWITCH This invention relates to an electronic integral lamp holder and touch sensitive switch.
Integral lamp holder and switches are commonly fixed to standard or table lamp bases.
Their function is to affix filament lamps to lamp stands and to allow the mains current to the lamp to be switched on and off with the use of a mechanical on/off switch.
However this type of integral lamp holder and switch only allows for the lamp to be switched to full brightness or totally off. They also have no means with which to locate the switch should the ambient light level be too low to visually locate it. It can also be difficult to orientate the hand in order to push the on/off bar switch with sufficient force to operate it.
According to the present invention there is provided an integral lamp holder and touch sensitive switch comprising an electronic touch sensing and lamp on/off, and lamp brightness control circuit, a casing which houses the electronic circuit and receives the lamp, it also has an electrically conductive band around its circumference for ease of control of the unit. Protruding through the casing is one or more light emitting diodes. A base cap is provided which fits onto the casing allowing the unit to be fitted to a standard mounting boss.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1 shows a drawing of the unit with the positioning of the various components.
Figure 2 illustrates the sensor ring, base cap and bayonet section.
Figure 3 illustrates the halves comprising the casing and the electrical terminal blocks.
Referring to the drawing, the lamp holder and integral touch sensitive switch comprises the casing halves (C1,C2), the electronic circuit and RFI choke (E1,E2), the electrical input and output terminals (Q1,Q2), an electrically conductive band (E), plungers (P1,P2) and a base cap (D).
The lamp retaining section (B) is located via a tongue (Tg) in grooves (G1,G2) in the body halves (C1,C2). The plungers (P1,P2) are located in holes (H1,H2). The electronic circuit board is secured by grooves (G3,G4) and the choke is located below. The input and output terminal blocks (Q1,Q2) are retained by recesses (X1,X2,X3,X4). The unit is held together by the electrically conductive band (E) being compression fitted around the casing halves (C1,C2).
The mains wire gains access to the unit through the base cap (D) and to the terminal blocks (Q1,Q2) via holes created (V1,V2,V3,V4) and is secured by grub screws (Y1,Y2) via holes created (W1 ,W2,W3,W4). Linkage between the electronic circuit board and the sensor ring is achieved via a wire through a hole (F) in one of the case halves.
