Abstract

A base plate 5 carries a representation of a golfing green 8 with a superimposed locating grid 6. A marker 11 is attached to the base plate 5 to represent the position of a golf pin on the green. The marker 11 may be attached to the plate 5 by magnetic means or the like so that its position on the plate can be changed. The plates 5 is mounted within a container base 2, and a lid 3 is hinged to the base at 4. The lid 3 includes a transparent window so that the position of the marker 11 can still be viewed with the lid shut.

Description

REMOTE GOLF PIN LOCATION TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to the game of golf and in particular, but not exclusively, the location of a golf pin on a green.
BACKGROUND It is a well known fact that most games of golf are won or lost on the green. Whilst driving from the tee and then playing the ball on towards the hole in the green is never to be under estimated, it is vital to be as.close to the pin, and therefore hole, from the approach shot, as possible. Often, however, being able to clearly identify the pin position from the approach shot may be difficult. For instance the approach shot may be some distance away and whilst the top of the pin may be seen, the green may itself be out of sight in a dell, or rise; the approach shot may be a dog-leg thus the green is out of sight; of course it may be appreciated that some par 3 and 4 holes are often a problem in that from the tee a player may not be able to identify the pin position sufficiently for the ball to be struck to the closest possible position to the pin; and then there is the problem of avoiding bunkers and water; or perhaps using natural hazards to ones advantage.
It is the aim of the present invention to provide a means whereby a player is able to assess the position of a pin prior to playing off from a tee in order that the pin position may be memorised by the player.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention proposes a base plate of pre-determined dimensions, comprising a super-imposed grid and outline shape consistent with that of a particular green. Provided with the said plate is a removable marker that can be located on the grid lines in order to correspond with the pre-determined position of a pin in a remote green.
In a further aspect of the invention the said plate may be located in a suitably shaped container in order that it and the marker be concealed from unspecified persons, as well as from the elements.
In a further aspect of the invention said removable marker is a pin which locates into a corresponding co-operating holes in the said plate, and may be provided with a fixing means.
In a further aspect of the invention the said marker and plate may be of a magnetic, adhesive or Velcro nature.
In a further aspect of the invention the said marker may be in the form of an electric light, or lights, set into a plate and a means whereby a light may be activated in order to identify the position of a remote pin on a green.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The following description and the accompanying drawings referred to therein are included by ways of non-limiting example in order to illustrate how the invention may be put into practise.
In the drawings: Figure 1: is a perspective view of a golf pin location device, with covering lid open Figure 2: is a perspective view of a golf pin location device, with lid closed.
Figure 3: is a plan view of a plate, grid, green shape, hazards and marker.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Figure 1 shows a pin location device 1 comprising a base container 2 and lid 3 which may be hinged at 4. Lid 3 may be substantially transparent (not shown).
Provided in container 1 may be plate 5 on to which may be found grid 6.
Outlined onto the said plate may be a shape of a corresponding green 7 and hazards 8.
Grid 6 may be sub-divided by small lines 9 which relate to incremental meter dimensions shown as (0-5-10) 10.
To be found on plate 2 may be marker 11 which may be of a co-operating magnetic property with plate 2 in order that marker 11 be moved around according to a position of a pin's predetermined position on a remote green.
Figure 2 shows a pin location device 1 in a similar perspective to Figure 1, but in this instance lid 3 is closed. By virtue of said lid being substantially transparent grid 6, green 7, hazards 8 may be visible.
Provided in lid 3 may be locking means 12 such that lid 3 may be secured against unauthorised access.
Figure 3 is a plan view of views in Figures 1 and 2. In this lay out the grid 6 sub-divisions 9 may be clearly seen.
In use a green-keeper will select a position on a green for a pin. Accordingly a hole will be cut and cup sunk, then pin replaced.
After this process the grecn-keeper will measure the precise position of the hole, and then retire to the corresponding tee where the invention is located. The green-keeper will then position the marker 11 by use of grid 6 and sub-divisions 9, in order to reflect the exact position of the pin on the green.
On approaching the tee a player will then be able to locate and memorise the pin position by means of marker 11, and furthermore identify the various hazards 8. In addition to this visual display, certain colours or other identification means may be applied to place in order to sismify undulations or gradients.
Once the pin position has been memorised, a player may then play to hole positioning the ball such that the cleanest and most accurate may be executed in order that the ball may land on the green in the most appropriate pre-determined position by the player.
