Description

CARPET AND TILE CUTTING JIG When a carpet is laid, it has to be triinnied so that it fits flush to a skirting board. This is normally done by forcing the carpet by hand into the comer where the skirting board nieets the floor. A sharp knife is then forced through the carpet and the cut is made using the skirting board and floor as the cutting guide.
But, because tJle knife blade is in contact with tlie floor, it gets dull and ends up tearilig its way through tile carpet aiid possibly damaging the skirting board. This invention raises the carpet off the floor at cutting point, therefore preventing the knife blade form making contact with the floor or sking board, giving a cleaii cut to the carpet aiid prolong tile life of the blade. This iliventioli has been adapted for cuttilig vinyl and soft liiio tiles.
A description of this invention now follows by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Tlie Jig (1) is placed oti the floor up against a skirting board, (Fig 2), tie bottom of the ji@ is rebated (7) to allow it to stand over (10) a carpet gripper if fitted. Tlie carpet end is draped over the Jig. Tlie cutting guide (5) is liow hidden by the carpet1 but by placing guide locater (2), into slot (3), it is now possible using the cuttilig guide (5) to niake tlie initial cut along tie length of the guide. The guide locator (2) is removed, aiid the Jig moved by the handle (4), either left or right to continue with tile next cut using the end of the previously made cut as a starting point for subsequent cuts.
To cut floor tiles (vi Iyl or liiio), die Jig (I) is used in the same way as for carpets with this difference:
Tlie tile is butted up agailist a full tile aiid rests on the Jig. Tile guide (8) is put into position by puttilig dowels (9) into locating holes (6). Tlie tile is held in position by hand pressure on guide (8).
Usiiig a sharp biife tlie tile is scored until cut through, using tile guide (8) as a straigllt edge.

Claims (1)
