Description

1 2308942 METHOD FOR GENERATING A TRANSMISSION CONFIRMATION REPORT OF
FACSIMILE APPARATUS
Backaround to the Invention
The present invention relates to a method for generating a transmission report in a facsimile apparatus.
Generally, in a facsimile apparatus, if a f ax document transmission is completed, there are a number of ways of telling. For example, a seal is stamped on the transmission document using a stamp, a transmission confirmation report etc. is generated so that a user can discriminate completion of the document transmission. When using the transmission completion stamp in the fax transmission, problems arise such as increased expense. Furthermore, if a transmission confirmation report from a low priced model is used in the transmission confirmation and if an error occurs in the middle of a transmission of several pieces, the user cannot recognize which page of the transmitted documents has the error and thus there is the problem not only of inconvenience such as transmitting again all the documents.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a method of generating an improved transmission confirmation report.
Summary of the Invention
Accordingly, the present invention provides a method of operating a transmitting facsimile apparatus comprising:
detecting in the transmitting facsimile apparatus a reception completion signal or a re-transmission requirement signal issued by the receiving facsimile apparatus when a document is transmitted from the transmitting facsimile apparatus to the receiving facsimile apparatus; and if the transmission is incomplete, printing a transmission report including details of the pages which 2 were successfully transmitted and/or the pages which were not successfully transmitted and/or the pages which require re-transmission.
Preferably, the method further comprises, if the transmission is complete, printing a transmission report including a transmission completion message.
Preferably, the transmission report includes details of the 10 pages which were successfully transmitted and, separately, details of those which were not and/or require retransmission.
The present invention also extends to a facsimile apparatus comprising:
means for detecting a reception completion signal or a re-transmission requirement signal issued by a receiving facsimile apparatus when a document is transmitted to the receiving facsimile apparatus; and means for printing a transmission report including details of the pages which were successfully transmitted and/or the pages which were not successfully transmitted and/or the pages which require re-transmission.
Preferably, if the transmission is complete, to print a transmission report including a transmission completion message.
Preferably, the transmission report includes details of the 30 pages which were successfully transmitted and, separately, details of those which were not and/or require retransmission.
Brief Description of the Drawings
The present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a schematic block diagram of a general facsimile apparatus.
3 Fig. 2 is a view showing a transmission confirmation report outgone according to the present invention.
Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiment
Fig. 1 is a schematic block diagram of a general facsimile apparatus. In the construction referring to Fig. 1, a central processing unit (CPU) 10 controls in general the facsimile according to a given program. A link interface unit (LIU) 60 is controlled by the CPU 10 to make a speech path between a public telephone network (PSTN) and a modulator- demodulator (MODEM) 50. The MODEM 50 is controlled by the CPU 10 to demodulate an analog signal input through the LIU 60 into a digital signal and to modulate the digital signal provided from the analogue signal.
A random access memory (RAM) 20 and a read only memory (ROM) 30 store temporarily data received. An operational panel 40 is constructed of a key matrix including numerous number keys and function keys and provides key data generated according to key operation to the CPU 10. Also a display displays messages etc. under the control of the operational panel 40.
in the above-mentioned facsimile, a CCITT T.30 protocol is observed in execution of transmission and reception. Therefore, a multi page signal (MPS) in the transmission of multiple pages and an end of procedure (EOP) in the transmission of a single document are transmitted by the transmitting party to the receiving party. Then the receiving party outputs a message confirmation (MCF) signal to the transmitting party. By using this MW signal when the transmitting party detects the MW signal during transmission of several documents, the transmitting party judges a transmission to be complete. Also, upon nonreception of a command or retrain positive (RTP) or retrain negative (RTN), it is judged to be a transmission error and therefore a transmission confirmation report can be printed as shown in Fig. 2. If an error occurs, the number of pages 4 detected by a document sensor in the document out tray is calculated.
Fig. 2 shows a transmission confirmation report according to the present invention. By adding up the completed pages, the transmission failure pages and the re-transmission requirement pages on the conventional report, the documents required for re-transmission can be clearly recognized.
Also by showing the total pages contrasting with the transmission completion pages and the transmission failed pages, a clearer picture of the send operation can be had. Accordingly, the receiving party can save paper by avoiding re-reception of the same document and the transmitting party can avoid increased telephone charges caused by retransmission of the whole document.
