Abstract

A manhole cover keyway plug comprises a body that can be inserted into the keyways of a manhole cover by hand to prevent the ingress of debris and then removed either by hand or by being prised out with the aid of a tool such as a screwdriver. The plug is suitably made from rubber or a plastics material.

Description

Manhole Cover Keyway Plug This invention relates to a manhole cover keyway plug.
Manhole covers are usually provided with two or more openings known as keyways. These keyways allow lifting keys to be inserted which in turn allows the cover to be lifted and removed.
When manhole covers are installed on site, the keyways have a tendancy to fill up with debris such as mud, small stones and tarmac, therefore making it difficult or impossible to insert the lifting keys. The keyways therefore require clearing of debris to allow the lifting keys to be inserted.
A keyway plug, made from a material such as rubber or plastic, can be inserted into the keyway by hand and removed either by hand or by being prised out with the aid of a tool such as a srewdriver. Once inserted, the keyway plug prevents debris from entering and blocking the keyway, therefore making the process of lifting the manhole cover quicker and easier.
Figure 1 shows a plan, elevations and a perspective view of the manhole cover keyway plug.
Figure 2 shows a manhole cover with keyways into which the plug can be inserted.

Claims
1. A manhole cover keyway plug that can be inserted into the keyways of a manhole cover to prevent the ingress of debris, therefore making the process of lifting the manhole cover quicker and easier.
2. A manhole cover keyway plug, as claimed in claim 1, that can be inserted by hand and removed either by hand or by being prised out with the aid of a tool such as a screwdriver.
