Abstract

The present invention relates to a process that enables thermoplastics vehicle number plates to be manufactured by injecting the plastics directly into a mould cavity using a hot nozzle technique.

Description

Technical 1. This application refers to a unique process for the manufacture of Thermoplastic Vehicle Number Plates and comprises pages 1 to 3 together and Appendix (a).
la. Appendix (a) is Drawing No. DESC/OO1/NP Dated November 1995, and forms part of this application.
Background 2. Hitherto, thermoplastic number plates have been moulded using well established moulding techniques. On completion of the moulding process, each number plate is removed from the press for the removal of the plastic injection gate - See figure (1) drawing DESC/OO1/NP, appendix (a). For aesthetic and practical further process reasons, this operation is an important and necessary task which often leaves the number plate's shaped edge with moulding process evidence and a scarred section of its length.

    3. Descalite Chemical Industries Limited has developed a means of moulding thermoplastic number plates which leaves each moulding completely free of injection gate imperfections See figure (2) on drawing No. DESC/0Ol/NP, appendix (a).
    This eliminates any subsequent dressing processes.
    3a. Descalite's unique process has been to design and maufacture a vehicle number plate moulding tool which allows the thermoplastic material to be moulded via a 'Hot Nozzle' process. The 'Hot Nozzle' process is an already established thermoplastic moulding technique but is unique in its application to the manufacture of vehicle number plates.
    This permits the thermoplastic to be injected directly into the mould cavity to produce a perfectly clean and imperfection free product. Figure (2) on drawing, DESC/O0l/NP, appendix (a), shows a finished unit as described in this section.
