Abstract
230,725. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Sept. 9, 1924. Cut-out arrangements.-In a system of the Merz-Price type for polyphase circuits, in order to avoid operation of the relays by the unbalanced capacity currents fed into a healthy section owing to a fault in another section, a potential transformer 22 having an earthed star connected primary winding 23 energized from the protected circuit supplies a neutralizing current through its series connected secondary winding 24 to the pilot wire system in accordance with the capacity currents fed into the circuit when the system voltage is unbalanced due to a fault on another section. In order to bring the currents into the proper phase relationship a condenser 25 of a capacity approximately equal to that of the power circuit is connected in series with the winding 24. As applied to a protective system of the circulating-current type instead of the opposed-voltage type shown, current transformers with ring cores embracing all the phases may be employed and a resistance is connected across the secondary 24 and condenser 25. Specification 17177/10 is referred to.
