Abstract
A hazard warning indicator for use with an automotive vehicle, comprising a flexible drape for mounting on a vehicle body, the drape bearing a highly visible hazard warning triangle, and means for mounting the drape securely on the vehicle. The mounting means comprise magnetic devices, suction devices, weights, strips, pads or ropes. The centre of the triangle may be white and may include a black exclamation mark.
Description
HIGH VISIBILITY WARNING DRAPE
The High Visibility Warning Drape has been designed as a Temporary Warning Sign to be used as a road safety measure to be mounted on the back of broken down vehicles to enable it to be 'highly visible' to any approaching vehicles.
When a vehicle has broken down or has been involved in an accident this is normally brought to the attention of other motorists by either:
1) The use of hazard warning lights - which do not last long on a tired
battery.
or
2) The erection of a small hazard warning triangle which is not easy to
distinguish and can be blown over.
PREFERRED TECHNICAL FEATURES
The High Visibility Warning Drape is designed as follows: 1. The triangle shall be equilateral, coloured red and shall be reflectorised to
Class 1 of BS873 Part 6 or equivalent specification of a European Economic
Area State.
2. The centre of the triangle may be coloured white, in which case it shall be
reflectorised to Class 1 of BS873 Part 6 or equivalent specification of a
European Economic Area State. Alternatively it may be the same colour as the
background specified in note 3 below.
3. The background shall be coloured yellow which shall be fluorescent and may
also be reflectorised.
4. The total area of the device, including the red triangle, shall not be less than 0.8
square metres and can be a maximum of any size required to fit the relevant
vehicle, eg cars, vans, lorries, trailers etc.
5. The device will be capable of being fixed to the vehicle securely with magnetic
strips, rubber suckers, ropes, or any other fixing devices, in such a manner that
it does not obscure the vehicle's hazard flashing lights, red reflectors or
registration plate.
6. The Drape can be made in many flexible type materials, eg Nylon, cotton, PVC, Polypropylenelcanvas or similar types of material therefore allowing the drape to
fold up into a relatively small package to enable it to be stored in the car boot or
glove compartment or similar storage locations within vehicles.
