Abstract
A method of treating laundry comprises the steps of applying a fragrance to the laundry via an iron. The addition of a few drops of after-shave or perfume to the water in the reservoir of a steam iron endow laundry with a delicate pleasant fragrance. Furthermore, no adverse effect on the steam iron noted.
Description
METHOD OF TREATING LAUNDRY
This invention relates to a method of treating laundry, laundry when treated by said method, and a container provided with a fragrance and instructions to carry out said method.
In recent years it has been possible to add a fragrance to laundry by tumble drying the laundry with a sheet of material which contains a fragrance which is imparted to the laundry.
Unfortunately, the range of fragrances available is very limited.
According to the present invention there is provided a method of treating laundry which method comprises the step of applying a fragrance to the laundry via an iron.
Most housewives use a steam iron and the fragrance may conveniently be applied via the water reservoir in the steam iron and the holes in the sole plate thereof.
However, the fragrance may equally be applied via the damping spray which is to be found on many steam irons and associated with many travel irons.
The fragrance may conveniently be derived from after-shave or perfume.
The present invention also provides laundry when treated by a method in accordance with the present invention.
The present invention also provides a container provided with a fragrance and instructions to use said fragrances to treat laundry by a method according to the present invention.
For a better understanding of the present invention reference will now be made, to the following examples:
Example 1
2 drops of Farenheit (RTM) after-shave were introduced into tap water in the reservoir of a Phillips steam iron which was then used to iron normal domestic laundry.
The ironed laundry had a delicate pleasant fragrance.
Each time the reservoir was replenished 2 further drops of Farenheit (RTM) after-shave were introduced into the reservoir over a period of two months. The steam iron was then examined. Apart from a small amount of normal scale which was believed to originate from the tap water no residue was visible.
Example 2
The procedure of Example 1 was repeated using 2 drops of the perfume Anais-Anais (RTM).
Again the laundry had a delicate pleasant fragrance and no residue was visible in the iron after two months of domestic tests.
* * *
The above Examples suggest that a whole range of fragrances could be used. Obviously, any fragrance which became malodorous after application via a steam iron would not be recommended nor would one which adversely affected the operation of the steam iron.
