Abstract

An item of personal decoration 10,20 comprising a body 11,21 formed substantially of precious or semi-precious stone material, which has a cavity 12,22 and a piece of magnet 13,23 held within the cavity. Items of personal decoration include necklace, bracelet with elongate plate containing magnet, and items composed of individual beads containing magnet cores strung together.

Description

AN ITEM OF PERSONAL DECORATION The present invention relates to an item of personal decoration.
According to the invention, there is provided an item of personal decoration which comprises a body formed substantially of precious or semi-precious stone material, having a cavity and a piece of magnet held within the cavity.
Preferably, the cavity and the magnet have a substantially circular cross-section.
In a preferred embodiment, the cavity and the magnet are provided in an underside of the body.
In a specific construction, the body is elongate and has respective holes at opposite ends for fixing onto a string, chain or the like.
In another preferred embodiment, the cavity of the body is in the form of a through hole, and the magnet has a through hole and is held inside the cavity with the respective holes extending substantially co-axially.
More preferably, the body is in the form of a bead, and the hole of the magnet inside the body is provided for the threading of a string or the like to hold a plurality of such items together to form a necklace or bracelet.
It is preferred that the cavity has a restricted opening, and the magnet is formed inside the cavity through moulding operation.
The invention will now be more particularly described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective side view of a first embodiment of an item of personal decoration in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a cross-sectional side view of the item of personal decoration of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a perspective side view of a second embodiment of an item of personal decoration in accordance with the invention; Figure 4 is a cross-sectional side view of the item of personal decoration of Figure 3; and Figure 5 i8 a cross-sectional side view of a third embodiment of an item of personal decoration in accordance with the invention.
Referring firstly to Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, there is shown a first item of personal decoration embodying invention, which is in the form of a bracelet plate 10 having a elongate jade body 11. The body 11 has on its underside, a series of three shallow cylindrical recesses 12, into which respective disc-like magnets 13 are fitted.
Each magnet 13 is fixed in position by glue or the like.
Opposite ends of the body 11 are provided with respective slots 14 for fixing onto a string, chain or the like for wearing on a person's wrist, or for the ends of such a string, chain or the like to be secured to, thereby forming a loop for wearing.
Figures 3 and 4 show a second item of personal decoration, in the form of a bead 20, embodying the invention. The bead 20 has a spherical jade body 21 through which a cylindrical hole 22 is formed, extending co-axially through the centre of the body 21. The bead 20 includes a tubular magnet 23 which has an outer diameter marginally smaller than the inner diameter of the hole 22 of the body 21 and a length slightly smaller than the diameter of the body 21, for fitting co-axially into the hole 22. The magnet 23 is fixed in position by, for example, glue. A series of such beads 20 are intended to be connected together by a string or the like threaded through the holes of the corresponding magnets 23 to form a necklace or bracelet.
Referring finally to Figure 5 of the drawings, showing therein a third item of personal decoration, in the form of another bead 30, embodying the invention, which bead 30, likewise, has a spherical jade body 31. The body 31 is formed with a diametrically extending hole-like cavity 32 which has opposite ends 33 restricted to have a general shape resembling that of a ruby ball. The bead 30 includes a magnet 34 which is formed, through moulding operation, to fill the cavity 32 of the body 31. The magnet 34 has a central hole 35 to permit a series of such beads 30 to be stringed together to form a necklace or bracelet.
It is envisaged that the bodies 11, 21 and 31 of the described items of personal decoration may be made of any suitable precious or semi-precious stone materials apart from jade. The magnets 13, 23 and 34 are useful to provide wearers with a magnetic field close to the body for health enhancement.
The invention has been given by way of example only, and various other modifications of and/or alterations to the described embodiments may be made by persons skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention as specified in the appended claims.
