Description

DETACHABLE / PORTABLE STEREO UNIT This invention relates to a detachable and portable stereo, that includes rechargeable batteries in each unit.
There are many different types of stereo equipment on the market today, however, most of these have a specific role and can not be adapted for other roles. For example, stereo separates are large and heavy and once assembled can not be moved easily, and are by no means portable. Portable stereo units may be transported easily for playing out of doors for example, but require a large number of relatively short life batteries, and are still fairly large and cumbersome. Personal stereo's and Compact disk players are ideal for travelling but may only be used by one person at a time, unless speakers with a built in amplifier are connected, which result in a poorer sound quality.
According to the present invention there is provided a main unit incorporating an amplifier, power level indicators, clock/timer and a carrying handle. The main unit will also house the detachable components, comprising:- speakers, personal compact disk player and personal radio/cassette player.
The main unit along with the radio/cassette and compact disk players will include static rechargeable batteries that may be recharged by the main's electricity supply through the main unit and monitored with the power level indicators. However, the complete stereo may also be operated directly from the main's electricity supply.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1. Shows the main stereo unit, with all of the detachable components assembled.
Figure 2. Illustrates the separation of the personal cassette/radio and compact disk players from the main unit.
Referring to figure 1 the stereo unit is comprised of four main components: - Main section, clock/timer and power indicators, amplifier, battery section and carrying handle 1,2,3,4 respectively.
- Personal compact disk player 5.
- Personal radiolcasette player 6.
- speakers 7,8.
In order to remove the detachable components from the main section buttons are provided as follows, (see figure 2): - Speaker release button 1.
- Compact disk release button 2.
- Radio/cassette release button 3.
Once detached the personal compact disk and radio/cassette can be used as individual items with the addition of headphones (not shown).
The connecting mechanisms 4,5,6 are shown purely as examples and would take the form of direct plug in sockets, which would alleviate the need for cumbersome wires.
As previously stated, the main section and the detachable compact disk and radio/cassette components would house rechargeable batteries (not shown). Therefore, whilst the main section is connected directly to the mains electricity supply these batteries could be recharged and monitored by the power level indicators 7, ready for their next individual usage.

Claims (7)

1. Audio entertainment apparatus incorporating a main section, in the form of a clock/timer. power indicators, amplifier, battery section and carry handle, and detachable units comprising. a personal compact disk player, personal radio/cassette and two speakers, plus any other future component not stated.
2. Audio entertainment apparatus as in claim 1, wherein means are provided of releasably securing the detachable components to the main section.
3. Audio entertainment apparatus as claimed in 1 and 2, wherein buttons are provided on each detachable component in order to release it from the main section.
4. Audio entertainment apparatus as claimed in 2 and 3, wherein rechargeable batteries are included in the main section and both the compact disk and radio/cassette, in order for individual use, or use away from the mains electricity supply, said batteries being recharged from the mains electricity supply, through the main unit.
5. Audio entertainment apparatus as claimed in 3 and 4, wherein power level indicators are provided to monitor the available power or the charging of batteries in the fore mentioned components.
6. Audio entertainment apparatus as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the complete assembled unit is provided with a carrying handle.
7. Audio entertainment apparatus as described herein with reference to figures I and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
