Abstract

A plug has folding pins so that it can be passed through a letter box whereby a door can be closed when a power supply is needed outdoors. Each pin can be kept in an extended position by a ball-and-spring mechanism and maintained in a retracted position by a ball-and-spring latch.

Description

Letter Box Plug The letter box plug has 3 pins that will pivot to a secondary position as shown on drawings 1 & 3 of 3 which a normal 13 amp household plug can not do. In this second position it is very streamlined unlike a normal plug.
The reason for my idea is that when useing a power tool outside a house the extension lead is run invariably through the front door in a open position. This can let in cold rain noise and dust.
It is also very dangerouse because if the door slams it can cut into the lead. This has happened on several occasions during my work. I often try to pass the 3 pin plug on my extension lead through the letter boxes on the houses I work in but invariably the plug is to large. This problem gave me the idea of a 13 amp plug that would pass through the letter box enabling the front door to be shut whilst working outside.

Claims (4)

Claim
1. The "Letter Box Plug" is a three pin electrical plug that has provision for the pins to swivel into three recesses in the body of the plug.
2. With the pins in the recessed position the plug is much thinner to facilitate its being used in or passed through restricted apertures sheet 1/3
3. The pins are kept in the recessed (horizontal) position by means of an adjustable spring loaded ball bearing which engages in an indentation in the recessed section of the plug - sheet 2/3
4. The pins are kept in the vertical position by means of spring loaded pivots which also ensure constant electrical contact - sheet 2/3
