Abstract

A ventilated secuirty cabinet / desk with a secure casing and retractable curtain, contains perforations 15. This allows electrically operated devices (eg a computer) to be secured against theft or misuse yet remain powered for communication or other uses. The retractable curtain made from a secure material enables easy access to the devices by authorised personnel whilst providing secuirty and ventilation when closed.

Description

VENTILATED SECURITY CABINET/ DESK This invention relates to a ventilated security cabinet J desk for use with computers and other electrical devices Computers and other electrical devices eg. printers, scanners, televisions, video recorders etc.
require a desk type structure to enable easy access and use. Most desks offer the computer or other hardware little protection against unauthorised access, dust or theft Computers are expensive and susceptible to crime. They often contain important data that can be hard to retrieve if the computer is stolen or damaged by misuse. Current methods of computer protection often require the power to be off and render the machine unuseable.
There is a conflict in the growing need to protect the hardware, related devices and data from misuse or crime and allowing the machines to remain powered for communication fiulctions eg fax, data transfer, access via other computers and maintaining memory. Dust, present in most working environments, is also a potential problem for computers and other devices if they are not protected According to the present invention there is provided a ventilated security desk I cabinet comprising a secure casing in the form of a box containing holes perforations, a retractable security front cutain (with holes J perforations). Guides to control the direction and movement of the curtain.Locking devices to secure the curtain A roller to retract the curtain. Shelvillg (some moveable) to form a desk ifrequired and power J communication sockets.
A specific embodiment ofthe invention will now be described by way of examl)le with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the desk / cabinet with the curtain retracted, enabling easy use and access ofthe computer or electrically operated devices (not illustrated) holes in the case allow for ventillation Figure 2 shows the curtain down preventing access to devices and offering a Iligll level of security (holes in retractable curtain not shown) Figure 3 illustrates the roller (motors spring or otherwise assisted) which drives the curtain.
Figure 3 illustrates secitions ofthe retractable security curtain in more detail willi holes for ventillation.
Figure 4 illustrates shelving for installation within the cupboard to form a desk structtu e. If not used a typical desk J table can be installed instead Referring to the drawing the ventilated security desk I cabinet comprises a secure casing in the form oft box 10 and aretractable secure front curtain 11 that is powered by aroller 12 usually containing spring I motor or other drive mechanism and can be locked for security (locks not shown).Guides 13 direct and control the limit ofmovement ofthe curtain In order to secure the computer or electrical devices, the curtain is lowered in the direction of the arrow 14 ( via the roller) to a closed position and a locking device employed. The guides 13 at the sides ofthe unit guide the curtain during movement. The reverse ofthis procedure is employed to open the cabinet I desk.(open desk / cabinet shown in figure 1, secured desk J cabinet shown in figure 2) In order to provide security but allow the devices to remain powered for corummication or ofiwi uses the curtain and case contain holes (figure 1 & figure 4 15116 shows differing slyles ofhole athough other options may be used, differing shapes of curtain section may also be used) to allow ventilation and prevent overheating .To provide protection against dust the top lid 17 is of a solid construction and the bottom ofthe case 18 can be secured to the floor to prevent movement and offer additional security. Ifused as a desk shelving (figure S) can also be used to create the desk structure some shelves may be moveable (not shown) running on guide rails and mounted to the case 20 or if used as a cabinet a standard desk or table can be used within the structure. Power and conmnmication sockets (not shown) are installed to allow for requirements of the hardware or electrical devices.
