Abstract

A seatbelt or restrainer for dogs comprises two straps. 1, 2 which are fastened together within one or two padded pieces 5 on the dog's chest and underbelly. One end of each strap is sewn onto the inside of the padded piece/s with heavy duty stiching (Fig. 5.). The padded piece/s being made of foam and covered in material are both comfortable for the dog and pleasing to the eye. The restrainer is fixed by a strap 3 to a seat or a safety belt of a vehicle. The straps of the seatbelt or restainer are made of strong ridged woven material, these ridges work in conjuction with the buckles in preventing the belts from slipping out of position once adjusted.

Description

CAR SEAT BELT J RESTRAINED FOR DOGS TECHNICAL FIELD AND BACKGROUND This seatbelt or restrainer for dogs has been constructed to keep the dog at one location in the vehicle.
In the event of a collision or sudden braking, this seat belt will retain the animals movement thus minimizing injury to dog or passengers.
The belts are fastened quite firmly around the body of the animal allowing a little movement for comfort by using the sliplock buckles to adjust the straps.
There are two body belts that envelope the dogs trunk thus holding firmly the main bulk of the animal.
Sliplock buckles used for adjusting straps are used in conjunction with the woven Ridged webbing or belts and so prevent the belts from slipping out of position when sudden force is applied.
The fastening points on the dog are the " easyonl off" type.
This beltl restrainer has been designed to fit front or back seats of vehicles.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL FEATURES This seat belt has a unique feature that being the padded peice/s which sit on the dog's chest and underbelly where there are two fastening points.
This padded peice/s are made of foam and covered in material and doubled over Shown clearlyas 5 inFig 4 & .
There are two designs of padded pieces 5, shown as one piece in Fig 4 or two pieces as shown in Fig 5 these piece/s 5 being very appealing to the eye.
There are four straps that make up the seat belt, two of which fasten around the body of the dog.
Straps 1 & 2 as shown in Fig 1 2 & 3 , these straps meet at the back of the nçck where they are threaded through a D - ring, 6.
Strap 1 fastening on chest inside peicels 5, and strap 2 fastening on underbelly inside piece/s 5 as shown in Fig 1 2 3 4 & 5, One end of the straps 1 & 2 is secured inside peice/s 5 by heavy duty stitching as shown clearly in Fig 4 & 5.
Two slipiock buckles 9 at either side of D - ring 6 on strap 3 see Fig 1 & 3 are there to restrain the dog moving suddenly to either or other side of the vehicle.
FRONT AND BACK SEAT POSITIONING 1.
As in Fig 1 straps 1 2 & 3 are used, with the two body straps being in place and fastened at two pionts inside piece/s 5, strap 3 is then threaded through the D- ring 6 at the back of the neck as in Fig 1 & 3.
The two ends of strap 3 are then attached to the back of the passenger seatbelt or pionts thereabouts at 7 & 8 where belt 3 now lays horizontal in Fig 1.
There are two sliplock buckles 9 on either side of the D - ring 6 on strap 3 Fig 1, these Are placed close to the D-ring 6 to stop the dog from moving sideways..
2..
This positioning enables the dog to sit to one side ofthe vehide only see Fig 3.
With the body belts 1 & 2 being in place around the dog strap 3 is threaded through D - ring 6 as before but this time lays diagonal fixed at pionts 13 & 14 shown in Fig 3.
Depending on which side of the vehicle the dog sits the underside sliplock buckle 9 of which there are two on strap 3 must be pushed firmly up againts D-ring 6, this prevents the harness slipping down onto the seat when the dog is released.
FRONT SEAT POSITIONING 3.
For this position straps 3 & 4 are attached to body straps 1 & 2.
As shown in Fig 2 one end of strap 4 is taken through the D - ring 6 and the end of the strap is then threaded onto the sliplock buckle where it now becomes a loop secured to erring rind 6.
The other looped end 10 of strap 4 is then taken over the top ofthe seat and hangs down at the back of seat shown in Fig 2.
Strap 3 is then attached at point 11 to a D- ring on strap 2 and then taken around the back ofthe seat and threaded through loop 10 on strap 4 to the other side ofthe seat where It connects to the other D- ring on strap 2 at point 12 Fig 2.
