Abstract

During the installation of a hollow suction pile (1) in the bottom of a body of water, the pile is lowered onto the bottom and the pressure in the interior (6) of the pile (1) is reduced shockwise a number of times until the pile (1) has penetrated the bottom (2) to the required depth. For the shockwise reduction of the pressure, the interior (6) of the pile (1) is brought into connection with a room wherein an under-pressure has been created, the room forming part of an apparatus (7) which is mounted on the hollow pile (1). The relevant room is subjected to an under-pressure by closing it and evacuating the water present therein by pumping.
