Abstract

The booklet comprises a folder (10, Fig 1) having marginal, inwardly folded flaps (18, 19, 20, 22) and a fan-folded sheet 28 having end panels 29, 30 for location under the flaps and intermediate panels 31-40. The arrangement is such that the folder (10) and sheet 28 combine to form a multipage booklet and the sheet is removable from the folder to form a display sheet when flattened from the folded condition. The information displayed may be sport statistical information or a map.

Description

An Information Display Carrier This invention relates to an information display carrier.

It is known to provide folders for containing information sheets, such as travel documents, wherein the folder comprises one or more pockets to retain the documents.

However, such folders are not intended physically to interrelate with the documentation to be contained therein. The folder is merely a container for the information sheets.

According to the present invention, there is provided an information display carrier comprising a folder having marginal, inwardly folded flaps and a sheet fan folded into a format corresponding to the format of the folder when the folder is in a folded condition wherein the flaps are adapted to retain the folded sheet removably therein so that the sheet and folder combine to form a multi-page booklet and the sheet is removable from the folder so as to form a display sheet when flattened from the folded condition.

Therefore, the invention provides an information display carrier which, when in the multi-page booklet configuration, provides a plurality of fields to view, each field being a portion of the whole display and being presented in a convenient and easy to handle format.

Following is a description, by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, of one method of carrying the invention into effect.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a diagrammatic representation of a folder in accordance with the present invention, Figure 2 is a diagrammatic representation of an information sheet in accordance with the present invention, and Figure 3 is a diagrammatic representation of a booklet formed by combining the folder and the sheet in accordance with the present invention.

Referring to the drawings, there is shown a folder 10 of substantially rectangular configuration having spaced parallel crease lines 11, 12 forming a front panel 13, a spine 14 and a rear panel 15 of equal area to the front panel 13 and spaced parallel crease lines 16, 17 extending parallel to the crease lines 11, 12, the crease lines 16, 17 providing marginal side flaps 18, 19 extending from the front and rear panels 13, 15 respectively. The front panel 13 is provided with a bottom marginal flap 20 which is hinged at a crease line 21 to the front panel 13 and the rear panel 15 is provided with a bottom flap 22 which is hinged to the rear panel 15 at a crease line 23. The bottom flaps 20, 22 are each provided with an extension flap 24 which is hinged relative to the bottom flaps 20, 22 at a crease line 25.Each extension flap 24 is of substantially the same dimension in a direction parallel to the crease line 25 as the transverse dimension of the panels 13, 15 and is separated from a portion of the corresponding bottom flaps 20, 22 by a cut, as shown at A in Figure 1. Each of the side flaps 18, 19 is of greater transverse dimension in a direction at right angles to the adjacent crease line 16, 17 than the corresponding dimension of the bottom flaps 20, 22 relative to the adjacent crease line 25 and is undercut at a lower marginal edge portion thereof to provide a tab 26, 27.

The folder 10 is intended to be used with an elongate rectangular sheet 28 which is fan-folded transversely to provide two end panels 29, 30 of substantially equal area one to another and to each of the front and rear panels 13, 15 of the folder 10 and a series of intermediate panels 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39 and 40 hinged one to another which are of equal area one to another and to the areas of the end panels 29, 30.

Assembly of the folder 10 is carried out by folding the material of the folder at the crease lines 16, 17, 21, 22 and 25 so that the flaps 18 and 20 fold inwardly towards a rear surface of the front panel 13 and the flaps 19, 22 fold inwardly towards an inner surface of the rear panel 15. The extension flaps 24, having initially been folded onto the inner surfaces of the bottom flaps 20, 22, provide an aperture for receiving a lower corner portion of a corresponding one of the side flaps 18, 19 so that, when the flaps 18, 19, 20 and 21 lie against the inner surfaces of the corresponding front and rear panels 13, 15, the flaps 18, 20 and 19, 22 inter engage one with another to maintain the flaps 18, 20 and 19, 22 firmly in an inward position adjacent the front and rear panels 13, 15.The condition is maintained on account of each of the flaps 24 extending laterally adjacent the fold lines 16, 17. The margins of each of the side flaps 18, 19, are prevented from lifting in relation to the corresponding bottom flaps 20, 22 by tucking the tabs 26, 27 under the corresponding bottom flaps 20, 22.

The sheet 28 in the folded condition then is inserted so that the end panels 29, 30 slide under the folded flaps 18, 20 and 19, 22 and the group of fan-folded panels 31 to 40 slides in a gap between the folded bottom flaps 20, 22, as shown in Figure 3.

The information contained on the sheet 28 may be arranged in spaced parallel transverse strips A and B etc extending from top to bottom of the sheet 28 and each of the panels 31 to 40 may be ruled in five columns each representing a year so that the information presented on each of the panels 31 to 40 represents five years of a fifty year time span. The sheet 28 thus may provide information relating to a particular topic, such as a sport, whereby each field to view, for example panels 32 and 33 represents a decade of the fifty year period.

Since each of the side flaps 18, 19 obscures a margin of a corresponding end panel 29, 30, information is on the outer surface of each of the side flaps 18, 19 corresponding to the information on the end panels 29, 30 which is obscured by the side flaps 18, 19. It will be appreciated that, when the folded sheet 28 is located in the folded folder 10, as shown in Figure 3, the combination provides an information display carrier in the form of a booklet in which the panels 31 to 40 provide the pages of the booklet. However, the sheet 28 may easily be removed from and re-inserted in the folder 10. In a removed condition, the sheet may be placed on a flat surface as shown in Figure 2 and flattened and will then form a display.

Therefore, the consumer may choose to display the information contained on the sheet 28 as a flat display or as a booklet in which a portion of the display, eg any selected decade of a fifty year period, is displayed by opening the booklet at a field to view.

It will also be appreciated that the information contained on the sheet 28 may be other than statistical information. For example, the sheet 28 may be in the form of a map so that, in one condition the map may be laid flat and in another condition the map may be contained within the folder 10 so that portions of the map may be opened with selected fields to view in booklet format.

Claims

1. An information display carrier comprising a folder having marginal, inwardly folded flaps and a sheet fan folded into a format corresponding to the format of the folder when the folder is in a folded condition wherein the flaps are adapted to retain the folded sheet removably therein so that the sheet and folder combine to form a multi-page booklet and the sheet is removable from the folder so as to form a display sheet when flatenned from the folded condition.

2. A carrier as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the folded flaps at side margins of the folder carry information corresponding to information carried on corresponding side margins of the sheet.

3. A carrier as claimed in Claim 2 wherein each folded flap at a side margin of the folder is adapted to cooperate with an adjacent folded flap at a base margin of the folder.

4. A carrier as claimed in Claim 3 wherein each folded flap at a base margin of the folder is double folded to retain a lower carrier of an adjacent folded flap at a side margin of the folder.

5. A carrier as claimed in Claim 4 wherein each folded flap at a side margin of the folder is provided with a tab for engagement under an adjacent folded flap at a base margin of the folder.

6. An information display carrier substantially as hereinbefore described and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
