Abstract

A saw comprises a blade and a rotary table below which the blade is mounted. Rotation of the said table is effected by means of a motor and timing belt arrangement. A stepper motor is used, controlled by a Computer Numerically Controlled or C.N.C. electronic unit. This allows digital positioning of the rotary table giving infinitely variable angle positioning and great accuracy of the angle.

Description

AN IMPROVED RISING BLADE SAW Existing rising blade saws achieve angle positioning either by manual adjustment of the rotary table or are by a pneumatic cylinder moving the rotary table against fixed mechanical limit stops. These existing systems can limit the number of different angles achievable because of physical constraints and are limited in the accuracy of the angle.
According to the present invention there is provided a saw comprising a blade and a rotary table below which the blade is mounted, wherein rotation of the said table is effected by means of a stepper motor and time belt arrangement.
Preferably, the stepper motor is digitally controlled.
Specifically, the improvement for angle positioning is achieved by the use of a stepper motor and timing belt arrangement to move the rotary table. The stepper motor is controlled by a Computer Numerically Controlled or C.N.C.
electronic unit. This allows digital positioning of the rotary table giving infinitely variable angle positioning and much greater accuracy of the angle.
This system is considered to be both innovative and unique.

Claims (4)

1. A saw comprising a blade and a rotary table below which the blade is mounted, wherein rotation of the said table is effected by means of a motor and timing belt arrangement.
2. A saw according to claim 1, wherein the motor is a stepper motor and is digitally controlled.
3. A saw according to claims 1 or 2, wherein the timing belt rotates around two spaced timing wheels, a driving wheel connected directly to a stepper motor and a driven wheel connected to the rotatable table in such a manner that rotation of the driven wheel produces a corresponding rotation of the saw blade about its vertical axis.
4. A saw as hereinbefore described and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
