Abstract

A method of producing a hydroxycarboxylic acid comprises hydrolysing a complex mixture of esters, such as wool wax, to a predetermined degree of hydrolysis less than 90%. This partial hydrolysis makes it possible to optimise the recovery of hydroxycarboxylic acid.
