Abstract

The wheelbarrow has a body Y mounted on a subframe 1 pivoted to the main frame at a point Z rearward of the wheel axis. This arrangement provides stability in the unloading position. A locking arrangement, which may be in the form of links 3 to engage hooks 4, ensure that the body is locked to the frame in the transport position. In another arrangement (figure 3) handles are provided on both the sub frame and the main frame.

Description

WHEELBARROW This invention relates to an improved wheelbarrow.
Wheelbarrows are common implements which comprise a hopper mounted on a frame having a road wheel at one end and terminating in a pair of shafts at the opposite end.
According to the present invention there is provided a means of improved stability to the wheelbarrow during the tipping or off-loading operation.
Specific embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which various operating methods are indicated: The barrow comprises a hopper (Y) attached to a sub-frame (1), said sub-frame being pivotally attached (Z) to a main frame at a point rearward of the barrow wheel axle, the barrow having optional operating devices as follows: FIGURE 1 A. The sub-frame (1) is linked to the main frame (2) by a pair of mild steel links (3) (fixed to the main frame) which are engaged over a pair of profiled steel hooks (4) which are mounted on the sub-frame.
FIGURE 2 B. The sub-frame (1) is linked to the main frame (2) by a pair of sliding steel links (3) located on the arms of the sub-frame which are fitted over a pair of 'stub' arms (4) on the main frame during the travel cycle.
FIGURE 3 C. Both the sub-frame (1) and the main frame (2) are fitted with a pair of handles (3) of which the lower pair (main frame) is used for the travel operation and the upper pair (sub-frame) is used for the tipping (off-loading) operation.

Claims (1)

  1. A wheelbarrow comprises a hopper (Y) having sloping sides and a flat bottom mounted upon a sub-frame (1) pivotally attached (Z) to the main frame (2) at a point rearward of the barrow wheel during the operation of which the main frame legs together with the wheel form a tripod on the ground which causes the wheelbarrow to have improved stability during offloading. Locating lugs (X) are fitted to the main frame over the legs of such main frame.
