A WORK STATION
This invention relates to a support assembly, more particularly to a support assembly for terminal equipments of a work station.
Referring to Fig.. 1, a conventional support assembly 10 for a computer terminal of a work station includes a mounting seat 14 which has a clamping portion for clamping removably a table (not shown), a telescopic tube unit 11 which has an upright outer cylinder (lea) connected to said mounting seat 14 and an upright inner cylinder (lib) having a lower end portion received telescopically in the outer cylinder (lea), an elongated support arm 12 having a first end portion secured to an upper end portion of the inner cylinder (llb), and a support plate 13 mounted securely on a second end portion of the support arm 12 for supporting a computer monitor (not shown) thereon.
In use, the aforementioned conventional support assembly has the following drawbacks:
1. Since the support plate 13 is mounted securely on the second end portion of the support arm 12, the angle between the support arm 12 and the support plate 13 cannot be adjusted to suit the user's needs.
2. The aforementioned conventional support assembly does not have provisions for supporting a computer keyboard thereon. Therefore, a relatively large height difference between the computer monitor and the computer keyboard on the table occurs when the conventional support assembly is in use.
3. The aforementioned conventional support assembly is not provided with a tray unit for receiving documents or other terminal equipments thereon.
4. Since the electrical cables (not shown) of the computer monitor on the support assembly are exposed, tangling of the cables with other objects may occur, thereby inconveniencing the user and messing up the work station.
Therefore, the objective of the present invention is to provide a support assembly for terminal equipments of a work station, which support assembly is capable of overcoming the drawbacks of the aforementioned conventional support assembly.
Particularly, one of the objectives of the present invention is to provide a support assembly which has provisions for supporting a computer keyboard and other terminal equipments thereon.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide a support assembly which can conceal the electrical cables of the terminal equipments therein.
According to the present invention, a support assembly for terminal equipments of a work station includes a mounting seat adapted to be secured on a table. The mounting seat has a clamping portion for clamping removably the table and a cylindrical portion extending upwardly from the clamping portion. A tray unit includes a tray and a tray-retaining tube which is sleeved rotatably on the cylindrical portion and which has a retaining means for engaging the tray to retain the tray on the cylindrical portion. An elongated support arm has a first end portion formed with a sleeve member which is sleeved rotatably on the cylindrical portion, and a second end portion. A platform unit includes a connecting member which is mounted on the second end portion of the support arm and which has a bottom wall and two opposed side walls extending upwardly from the bottom wall. The platform unit further includes a support plate which has a mounting block extending downwardly into the connecting member between the side walls and mounted pivotally to the connecting member. The connecting member further has an adjustment rod which has a threaded shrank that extends threadably through the bottom wall and that abuts against the support plate such that rotation of the adjustment rod results in pivoting movement of the support plate relative to the connecting member.

Fig. 8 is a perspective view of a support assembly according to a second embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, in accordance with the present invention, a support assembly for terminal equipments of a work station includes a mounting seat 20, two tray units.40, an elongated support arm 52, a platform unit 60, a generally U-shaped frame 70 and a plurality of ring members 80.
The mounting seat 20 has a clamping portion 21 for clamping removably a table (not shown). Since the clamping portion 21 is conventional in construction, a detailed description thereof will be omitted herein.
The mounting seat 20 further has a cylindrical portion that includes an upright annular seat 22 which extends upwardly from the clamping portion 21 and which is formed with a notch 222 adjacent to a lower end portion thereof and a plurality of radial screw holes 223. The cylindrical portion further includes an upright hollow cylinder 30 which has a lower end portion inserted into the annular seat 22 and formed with a notch 31 that is aligned with the notch 222 of the annular seat 22. A plurality of screws 224 extend respectively and threadably through the screw holes 223 and abut against the hollow cylinder 30 so as to prevent movement of the hollow cylinder 30 relative to the annular seat 22. It should be noted that, in the present embodiment, the annular seat 22 is formed with three radial screw holes 223 (only one is shown).
Each of the tray units 40 includes a tray 42 and a tray-retaining tube 41 which is sleeved rotatably on the hollow cylinder 30 and which has a retaining means 411 for engaging the tray 42 to retain the tray 42 on the hollow cylinder 30. In the present embodiment, each of the retaining means 411 is a generally L-shaped member which has vertical section mounted on the trayretaining tube 41. The vertical section has an upper end formed with a hook flange 412 for engaging the tray 42 (see Fig. 3). It should be noted that the number of the tray units 41 is not limited to two, one or more than two should be included in the scope of the present invention.
The elongated support arm 52 has a first end portion which is formed with a sleeve member 51 that is sleeved rotatably on the hollow cylinder 30, and a second end portion 522 which is formed with an upwardly extending positioning hole 521 therethrough. An annular cover 53 is mounted on an open upper end of the sleeve member 51 and is formed with a central hole 531 therethrough.
Referring now to Figs. 2, 3 and 5, the platform unit 60 includes a connecting member 61 and a support plate 62. The connecting member 61 has a bottom wall (61A) and two opposed side walls (61B) which extend upwardly from the bottom wall (61A). A positioning rod 612 extends downwardly from the bottom wall (61A) of the connecting member 61 and has a threaded end portion which extends through the positioning hole 521 of the support arm 52. A nut 613 is connected to the threaded end portion of the positioning rod 612 so as to prevent disengagement of the positioning rod 612 from the support arm 52 via the positioning hole 521.The support plate 62 has a mounting block 621 which extends downwardly into the connecting member 61 between the side walls (61B) and is mounted pivotally to the connecting member 61 by the extension of a pivot pin 622 through the side walls (61B) and the mounting block 621. The pivot pin. 622 has a threaded end portion that engages a nut 623 so as to prevent disengagement of the pivot pin 622 from the connecting member 61 and the mounting block 621. The connecting member 61 further has an adjustment rod 611 which has a threaded shrank that extends threadably through the bottom wall (61A) and that abuts against the support plate 62 such that rotation of the adjustment rod 611 results in pivoting movement of the support plate 62 relative to the connecting member 61.
Referring to Figs. 2, 3 and 6, the support plate 62 further has two pairs of spaced mounting plates 624 which extend downwardly from the support plate 62 adjacent to a front edge of the latter, and two pivot seats 625. Each of the pivot seats 625 is connected pivotally between a respective one pair of spaced mounting plates 624 by means of a pivot pin 6251 that extends through the mounting plates 624 and the pivot seat 625. A retaining pin 6252 is connected to an end portion of the corresponding pivot pin 6251 so as to prevent disengagement of the pivot pin 6251 from the pivot seat 625 and the mounting plates 624. Each of the pivot seats 625 is formed with a mounting throughhole 626 which extends in a direction from the front edge to a rear edge of the support plate 62.In the present embodiment, each of the pivot seats 625 is generally rectangular and has a top face, a rear face and a bevel surface 629 which extends from the top face to the rear face so as to permit pivoting movement of the pivot seat 625 relative to the support plate 62.
Each of the pivot seats 625 is further formed with an upwardly extending screw hole 627 which is communicated with the mounting through-hole 626, and has a locking bolt 628 which engages threadably the upwardly extending screw hole 627.
The generally U-shaped frame 70 has two end portions which extend respectively and slidably through the through-holes 626 of the pivot seats 625 to secure retractably the frame 70 on the support plate 62. Two retaining pins 71 are connected respectively to distal sections of the end portions of the frame 70 so as to prevent disengagement of the end portions from the pivot seats 625 via the through-holes 626. The locking bolts 628 abut respectively against the end portions of the frame 70 so as fo prevent undesired movement of the frame 70 relative to the pivot seat 625.
A ring member 80 is disposed between the annular seat 22 and the tray-retaining tube 41 of a lower one of the tray units 40, between the tray-retaining tubes 41 of the tray units 40, and between the tray-retaining tube 41 of an upper one of the tray units 40 and the sleeve member 51 of the support member 51. The ring members 80 are sleeved on the hollow cylinder 30 and permit independent rotation of each of the trayretaining tubes 41 of the tray units 40 and the sleeve member 51 of the support arm 52.
Referring now to Figs. 3 and 4, in use, a computer monitor (shown in phantom lines) is supported on the support plate 62, and a computer keyboard (shown in phantom lines) is supported on the frame 70. The electrical cables (shown in phantom lines) of the computer monitor extend into the hollow cylinder 30 via the central hole 531 of the annular cover 53 and out of the hollow cylinder 30 via the notch 31 of the hollow cylinder 30 and the notch 222 of the annular seat 22 so as to be connected to other terminal equipments. The tray-retaining tubes 41 and the sleeve member 61 can be rotated independently and relative to the hollow cylinder 30 so as to be easily accessible to the user.
Referring now to Fig. 5, when the adjustment rod 611 is initially in the position shown in phantom lines, the support plate 62 is in a slant position shown in phantom lines. Rotation of the adjustment rod 611 in one direction results in upward movement of the same, thereby pivoting the support plate 62. When the adjustment rod 611 moves to the position shown in solid lines, the support plate 62 is in a horizontal position shown in solid lines. Thus, the angular position of the support plate 62 relative to the support arm 52 can be varied to suit the user's needs.
Referring now to Figs. 6 and 7, since each of the pivot seats 625 is formed with a bevel surface 629, the angle between the end portions of the frame 70 and the support plate 62 is adjustable as required by the user.
To increase the angle between the end portions of the frame 70 and the support plate 62, the locking bolt 628 is initially released to permit movement of the frame 70. Then, the end portions of the frame 70 are moved toward the front edge of the support plate 62, as shown in Fig. 6. To reduce the angle between the end portions of the frame 70 and the support plate 62, the steps of increasing said angle are reversed, as shown in Fig. 7. It should be noted that the angle between the end portions of the frame 70 and the support plate 62 can be set to a maximum of about 25 degrees.
Referring now to Fig. 8, a second embodiment of the present invention is shown. Unlike the first embodiment, the support assembly of the present embodiment further includes a second support arm 90 which has a first end portion formed with a sleeve member 91 that is. sleeved rotatably on the hollow cylinder and a second end portion provided with a second support plate 92 for supporting another terminal equipment, such as a telephone (shown in phantom lines), thereon.
Accordingly, th support assembly according to the present invention has the following advantages:
1. The inclination of the support plate 62 relative to the support arm 52 can be adjusted to suit the user's needs.
2. Since the platform unit 60 of the support assembly of the present invention is provided with a frame 70 for supporting a computer keyboard, a relatively small height difference between the computer monitor and the computer keyboard occurs when the present invention is in use. Furthermore, the angle between the end portions of the frame 70 and the support plate 62 is also adjustable as required by the user.
3. The support assembly of the present invention is provided with at least one tray unit 40 for receiving documents or other terminal equipments therein. In addition, the tray-retaining tubes 41 of the tray units 40 are rotatable to facilitate access to the tray units 40.
4. Since the electrical cables of the terminal equipments can be concealed in the hollow cylinder 30, tangling of the electrical cables with other objects is minimized, thereby conveniencing the user and enhancing neatness of the work station.
