Description
RING ADAPTABLE TO FINGERS OF VARIOUS SIZES
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Conventional rings can be generally divided into two categories in their structures -- a single loop fixed type and a deformable type. A ring of that deformable type is made of materials having better flexibility such as pure gold and is configured to lap partly on its band ends to acquire an adjustable band inside diameter that can be changed to a size fit for users' fingers. However, it often happens that the lapped portions are improperly deformed while a ring having such a structure is in use due to its capability of being easily bent. Rings made of alloy materials are usually of the fixed type because of their rigid property, but a ring of such a fixed type lacks of adaptability to fingers of varied sizes. When clients find rings that belong to their favorite style but do not have their sizes, they have to make a choice of either giving up or enforcing themselves to accept the unsuitable rings. Therefore, the structures of conventional rings need to be improved.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the invention is to provide a ring adaptable to fingers of various sizes, consisting of an inner ring band and an outer ring band, in which the inner ring band, being a C-shaped ring band with an opening facing upwards, resides in the interior of the outer ring band and exhibits decent resilience to make the ring suitable to fingers of various sizes.
The detailed structure, features, and other advantages of this invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment when read with reference to the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a preferred embodiment of a ring according to the invention.
Figure 2 is an exploded view showing parts of the ring of figure 1.
Figure 3 is a partly enlarged cross sectional view illustrating the configurations of an inner and an outer ring band according to this invention.
Figure 4 is a schematic view illustrating the changing in ring band configuration when the ring is worn on a smaller finger.
Figure 5 is another schematic view illustrating the changing in ring band configuration when the ring is worn on a larger finger.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
This invention is a ring adaptable to fingers of various sizes as shown in figures 1 and 2. As can be seen from these drawings, a ring (10) according to this invention is mainly composed of an outer ring band (20) and an inner ring band (30).
The outer ring band is an enclosing loop ended with a collet (21) within which gemstones may be set. The outer ring band (20) further has a groove (22) arranged on the inside surface thereof, which groove is configured in its cross sectional shape to have upright side walls and a bottom wall with a round outside surface as shown in figures 2 and 3.
The outer configuration of the inner ring band (30) is
C-shaped, with the opening of the ring band facing upwards.
The inner ring band (30) has decent resilient strength and an outside diameter equivalent to the inside diameter of the outer ring band (20). The inner ring band (20) having flat end surfaces can be just received by the groove (22) of the outer ring band (20). After the inner ring band (30) is inserted into the groove (22) of the outer ring band (20), the inner and outer ring bands can be combined by using a proper tool to squeeze the side walls of the groove (22) until the outer ring band (20) firmly clamps the inner ring band (30).
The functions of each part of the ring are as follows.
As shown in figure 4, the inner ring band (30) is fit for a smaller finger. When the ring is worn on a smaller finger, the inner ring band can keep the ring from rambling around in position by its effective embracing. On the other hand, when the ring is worn on a larger finger as shown in figure 5, the inner ring band (30) having decent elasticity adapts itself by stretching its ends into the groove (22) of the outer ring band (20) more deep until its back surface lying flat on the groove bottom. Thus, the ring of this invention is also suitable to be worn on a larger finger. From the above description, it is proven that the ring according to this invention can have better adaptability to fingers of various sizes.
As a conclusion, the invention has at least the following advantages.
1. The ring of this invention comprises an inner ring band
(30) housed by an outer ring band (20). The inner ring
band (30) has an outside diameter equivalent to the
inside diameter of the outer ring band (20) and can be
inserted into the interior of the outer ring band where
it is combined with the outer ring band. The inner ring
band (30) is C-shaped in its contour and owns decent
elasticity, which let it have the virtue of better
adaptability to fingers of various sizes.
2. The two side ends of the inner ring band (30) and the
side walls of the groove (22) of the outer ring band (20)
are designed to be flat and straight so that the inner
ring band and the outer ring band can be assembled by
placing the former into the groove of the latter and then squeezing the side walls of the groove by a proper tool to hold the inner ring band in position from three directions. Consequently the ring according to the invention has greater strength to endure external forces during the processing of embedding gemstones into the ring collet as well as the inner ring band (30) can firmly be combined with the outer ring band (20) to guarantee the existence and availability of elasticity of the ring shank.
Claims (3)
- A A ring adaptable to fingers of various sizes, consisting of an inner ring band having decent elasticity and an outer ring band that is an enclosing loop ended with a collet in which gemstones may be set, and characterized in that said outer ring band has a groove provided on the inside surface thereof, which groove has upright side walls and a bottom wall with a round outer surface, and said inner ring band is a C-shaped ring band with an opening facing upwards and has two flat side end surfaces and an outside diameter equivalent to the inside diameter of said outer ring band so that it can be accommodated within said groove of said outer ring band; said inner ring band being firmly secured in said groove by squeezing the side walls of said groove by a tool after said inner ring band is placed into said groove.
- 2. A ring comprising an inner ring band having a degree of resilience and an outer ring band in the form of a loop enclosing the inner ring band and provided with a collet in which gemstones may be set, the outer ring band having a groove provided on the inside surface thereof, the inner ring band being a substantially C-shaped ring band with an opening and having an outside diameter substantially equivalent to the inside diameter of the outer ring band, and the inner ring band being firmly held in the groove of the outer ring hand.
- 3. A ring substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
