Abstract

A selector mechanism (11) for a vehicle transmission comprising an automatic transmission (124) coupled to a range-change transmission (128) having first and second ranges includes a ratio selector lever (56) movable along three paths (14, 18, 20) defined by a gate (12). The first path (14) is defined by a first limb of the gate (12) for shift selection in the automatic transmission (124) with the first range of the range-change transmission (128) selected. The second path (20) is defined by a second limb of the gate (12) substantially parallel with the first limb for shift selection in the automatic transmission (124) with the second range of the range-change transmission (128) selected and the third, transverse, path (18) is defined by a limb of the gate (12) transverse to the first and second limbs. Movement of the selector lever (56) along the transverse path (18) effects a change from one range to the other in the range-change transmission (128).
