Abstract

A food mixer stand 1 for a motorised hand mixer 2,3 includes a base 5 for rotatably supporting a removable bowl 4. The base 5 includes balls or rollers 8 to enable rotation of the bowl during mixing.

Description

Improvements in or relating to Food Mixers This invention relates to food mixers and more particularly to stands for food mixers.
Food mixers consist generally of a housing containing an electric motor and a drive mechanism to which are attached one or more whisk or mixer elements which are driven in rotation for mixing material in a suitable container such as a bowl. These mixers may be hand-held or stand mounted and in the latter case the mixer may be integral with the stand or a detachable hand-held mixer. A mixer stand includes support for a bowl or like container and a support for the mixer which is usually retractable as by a pivot mounting to allow the mixer elements to be withdrawn from the bowl so that the latter can be removed.
Desirably the bowl is rotatable on the stand for improved mixing and for this purpose the stand usually incorporates a turntable.
It is an object of this invention to provide an improved and simplified rotary support arrangement for the bowl and to this end the invention provides a stand for a food mixer including a support for a detachable or integral mixer and a mounting base for rotatably supporting a removable bowl characterised in that the mounting base includes a plurality of bearing elements for the bowl which are rotatably mounted in the mounting base.
Preferably the bearing elements comprise balls mounted in recesses in the base but other elements such as appropriately oriented rollers may alternatively be used.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a food mixer incorporating a stand according to the invention, Figure 2 is a partial section through the food mixer of Figure 1, and Figure 3 is a view taken on the line A-A of Figure 1 with the bowl removed.
Referring to Figure 1 the food mixer illustrated comprises a stand 1 and a detachable hand mixer 2 pivotally mounted on the stand for movement between a turning position as shown in which rotary mixer elements 3 thereof are positioned in a removable bowl 4 mounted on a base 5 of the stand 1 and a retracted position in which the mixer elements are withdrawn from the bowl. The detachable hand mixer 2 comprises a body 6 containing an electric motor and a drive mechanism for driving the mixer elements 3 in rotation to effect a mixing action on material in the bowl. The mixer elements are preferably detachable for cleaning and replacement by alternative elements to provide different types of mixing action.
The mounting base 5 for the bowl 4 includes a generally flat surface 7 in which are retentively mounted a plurality of rollers 8 to provide rotatable support for the bowl to allow it to be rotated during the mixing operation. As will be seen the bowl sits directly on the rollers 8. In the embodiment shown three rollers 8 are retentively mounted in recesses 9 in the base surface 7 on axles 8a so as to be freely rotatable and project above the surface 7. The rollers are arranged at regular intervals along the circular rotation path formed thereby for the bowl 4 being suitably oriented to rotate the bowl on its axis, being arranged at the apices of an equilateral triangle. In order to stabilise the bowl on the support base 5 the underside of the bowl 4 suitably has a rim 10 or groove to guide the bowl as it rotates on the balls 8.Such an arrangement provides a reduced cost and simplified rotary mounting arrangement for the bowl compared with the conventional turntable normally employed in stand mounted food mixers.
While rollers are preferred as the supporting rotary elements as shown in the drawings, in an alternative embodiment (not shown) the rollers 8 are substituted by balls similarly retentively mounted by being trapped in recesses in the base 5. The balls are so arranged like the rollers to provide a circular rotation path for a bowl 4 mounted thereon.
Although particular embodiments of the invention have been described herein it will be understood that various modifications and changes may be made to the specific details referred to herein without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims. For example, while the food mixer shown has a detachable hand mixer, the mixer may alternatively be integrated with the stand.
