Abstract

A large roughly rectangular hand with raised edges to prevent scuffing of indicia on the band would be moulded from lightweight weather resistant plastic. The band would measure 30cms in length by 19 cms in overall width. One end of the band would be equiped with a plastic buckle measuring 8cms. The opposite end of the band would have a set of clips each measuring 7 cms in length. The buckle and chips would allow the ends of the band to be passed together around the cows leg. The hand would also have an identification number on each side. Each digit would measure 4 cms in height for easy reading. The band would be fitted when the cow was herded into the milking parlour. It would be fitted around the lower section of the cows hind leg as the cow was being milked.

Description

HERDMINDER LTD LEG IDENTITY BANDING SYSTEM (LIBS) LIBS is purposely designed as a replacement for freeze branding of dairy cattle. It will give the Herdperson easy access to the identity number of the cow, without the fuss of employing a freeze brander. No need to hold cow's and heifers in, no need for extra labour to help, no need for hunting animals through a crush, and more important, no stress for the cow.
LIBS is a fully adjustable appliance, which wrapes around the lower hind leg. Identity number will be printed on both sides of the band, so as to insure that the Herdperson can read the number, regardless of what side the cow comes into the parlour lo be milked. The band will have raised seams top and bottom, sides and middle to prevent number being scuft.
(See drawing).
LIBS can be fitted around leg of cow whilst milking, easy four point clip and lock buckle, to fit all size's of leg. No force needed to fit band around leg as clip and buckle slide together easily. However all herds have a few, less than cooperative members, so help maybe required to fit band on the more active members of the herd.
LIBS also offers a package of coloured tapes for herds that use a colour coding system for feeding. Having cows split into different groups. To run along side bray chart colour codes.
and of cause to show what cow as had drugs, and milk as to be disgarded. No more need for tail tapes, no more missing or damaged tails.
LIBS is made from a non toxic enviromentally friendly plastic, flexible and exstreamly slrong.
Plastic Spec is: Good Memory.
Hard Wearing.
Light Plastic.
Non Irritable.
No Sharp Edges.
Washable.
Scuff Resistant.
Long Colour Life.
There are an estimated 3 million dairy cow's in this country, with an annual cull rate of belween 20-25%. I strongly believe there is a market for LIBS. Freeze branding was brought in to use when herds became larger back in the 50's and cow's were lose housed.
Cow's are now generally cubical housed and as a result much cleaner.
LIBS will be easier, cleaner, carry more information, less expensive, less labour needed.
Safe and painless for the animal.
