Abstract
A warning sign for attachment to a vehicle windscreen comprises a retractable blind with a reflective warning design on the face of the blind visible from the vehicle exterior. The blind can be made with opaque or perforated material, which in either case would be reflective.
Description
VEHICULAR WARNING DEVICE
This invention relates to a warning sign for attachment to a vehicle.
Currently, the standard way of warning an observer of the existence of a vehicle in a potentially hazardous position is for the driver/other person to flash said vehicle's lights. Such lights, however, are usually dual or multi-purpose and it is not always immediately obvious to an observer/oncoming traffic that the hazard warning function is the intended one. An oncoming driver could, for example, think that a car stationed on a motorway hard shoulder and flashing its lights was a moving vehicle - especially if poor weather/lighting conditions prevailed.
This invention provides a relatively inexpensive meons of giving an unambiguous warning of the existence of a vehicle in a potentially hazardous position.
According to the present invention there is provided a warning signal adapted for attachment to a vehicle, said warning sign comprising retractable blind means having a reflective design provided on the face thereof which is visible from the vehicle exterior for alerting an observer to the existence of a potential hazard.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows the retractable blind in closed position
Figure 2 shows said blind in open position with warning face
design visible
Figure 3 shows said blind in open position attached to rear
windscreen of a vehicle with warning face design
visible
Referring to the drawing the warning sign comprises a retractable spring-loaded blind sized approximately 90 cm wide in open position x 41 cm high, shown in closed position in Figure 1, in open position in Figure 2, and as attached to the rear windscreen of a vehicle viewed from the vehicle exterior in Figure 3.
The means securing the retracted blind to the windscreen are rubber suckers 1. The additional means securing the blind when in open position are rubber suckers 2.
The blind material is fluorescent with a design on the face thereof showing the international hazard sign 3.
As an alterhative the blind may be fixed by means of screw fittings or velcro strips. Another alternative would be to use different warning/information signs. Another alternative would be to use perforated blind material which is see-through from the vehicle interior.
Claims (3)
1. A warning sign adapted for attachment to a vehicle, said
warning sign comprising retractable blind means having a
reflective design provided on the face thereof which is
visible from the vehicle exterior for alerting an observer
to the existence of a potential hazard.
2. A warning sign as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the
retractable blind is made of perforated material in order
to be see-through from the vehicle interior.
3. A warning sign substantially as described herein with
reference to Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
