Description

2297366 Gearbox The present invention relates to a gearbox comprising a
gearbox casing in which there are arranged at least two gearwheels which are capable of relative rotation and are in 5 engagement with one another.
A gearbox of this kind is known. Here, the vibrations caused by the interengagement of the gearwheels are transmitted essentially undiminished to the gearbox casing and radiated from the latter. From an acoustic point of view, this is far from satisfactory.
The present invention seeks to make a further development of a gearbox of this kind in such a way that the emission of noise to the surroundings is reduced.
According to the invention there is provided a gearbox comprising a gearbox casing in which there are arranged at least two gearwheels which are capable of relative rotation and are in engagement with one another, characterised in that the gearwheels are supported at at least one end in a common bearing plate, and in that, to reduce the introduction of sound into the gearbox casing, the bearing plate is separated from the gearbox casing by a flexible spring ring made of polymeric material. In gearboxes according to the invention, the acoustic vibrations caused by the interengagement of the gearwheels are transmitted to the gearbox casing with considerable diminution and are radiated by the latter to the surroundings to a significantly reduced degree.
Irrespective of this, the relative position of the interengaging gearwheels is precisely fixed. In terms of mechanical service properties and, in particular, in terms of endurance, gearboxes according to the invention are no different from hitherto known gearboxes.
The gearwheels can be mounted in the bearing plate either by means of an integrally formed shaft or by means of a shaft which is produced separately from the gearwheels and is inserted in them at a later stage. In both designs, acoustic vibrations from the gearwheels are transmitted to the mounting during normal use. Any transmission of the acoustic vibrations beyond this point is considerably reduced by the characterising features of the - invention. The characterising features of the invention therefore lead to a highly satisfactory outcome in both designs.
Because, in gearboxes according to the invention, the gearbox casing no longer vibrates to such a great extent due to structure-borne noise and because less attention has to be paid to acoustic design, it is possible to optimize the shape-dependent strength properties and the weight of the casing even further.
A significant improvement in acoustic effectiveness can be achieved when the gearwheels are supported at both ends in common bearing plates and are insulated acoustically from the gearbox casing at both ends by flexible spring rings made of polymeric material. Given such a design, it is not possible for acoustic vibrations to reach the gearbox casing, even by a circuitous route. Desirably, the gearbox casing is insulated acoustically from the gearwheels at each mounting point of the gearwheels by a flexible spring ring made of polymeric materials.
A worthwhile simplification from an assembly point of view is achieved if the spring ring is arranged in a gap between the bearing plate and a holding part which can be bolted to the gearbox casing. In such designs, there is no change in relation to hitherto conventional gearboxes as regards any disassembly operations which may be required.
It has proved to be advantageous if the spring ring is composed of elastomeric material and is connected to the 3 - bearing plate and the holding part by being directly vulcanized on. On the one hand, vulcanizing it on directly ensures a permanent, fluid-tight joint between the bearing plate and the holding part. On the other hand, spring rings made of elastomeric material provide an excellent guarantee of good, long- term vibration insulation between the bearing plate and the gearbox casing.
The invention is further illustrated below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a gearbox according to the invention in front elevation, and Fig. 2 shows the gearbox of Fig. 1 in partial longitudinal section.
The gearbox shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a gearbox casing 1 in which there are arranged at least two gearwheels 4, 5 which are capable of relative rotation and are in engagement with one another. The gearwheels 4, 5 are mounted on shafts 2, 3 supported at both ends in common bearing plates 6, of which the f ront one can be seen. To reduce the introduction of sound into the gearbox casing 1, this front bearing plate 6 is separated from the gearbox casing 1 by a flexible spring ring 8 made of soft rubber. The spring ring 8 is arranged in a gap between the bearing plate 6 and a holding part 7 which is bolted to the gearbox casing 1, the spring ring 8 being connected to the bearing plate 6 and the holding part 7 by being directly vulcanised on bearing plate 6. As a result, acoustic vibrations caused by the mutual engagement of the teeth of the gearwheels 4, 5 can no longer be transmitted to the gearbox casing 1 and radiated by the latter to the surroundings.
