Abstract
A brake device for a baby stroller includes an actuating element 21,22 pivoted to a transverse bar (12,figure 2) and connected, via linkages 23-25, to vertically movable brake plates 30, which include lugs engageable with brake elements 110 on the rear wheels 11. When arm 22 is pushed to the right, levers 25 are pivoted so that pins (251) move along inclined slots 31 to lift the brake plates 30 and move the lugs out of engagement with the brake elements. The actuating element and levers 23 are positioned between a cover 40 and the transverse bar.
Description
BRAKE DEVICE FOR k BABY STROLLER The present invention relates to a brake device and more particularly, to a brake device for a baby stroller.
A conventional baby stroller generally has a pair of front wheels and a pair of rear wheels, the front wheels have a feature of turning and the rear wheels each have a brake device disposed thereto so as to be operated by an operator to prevent the rear wheels of the stroller from turning. The brake device is disposed to each of the rear wheels of the stroller, therefore, the operator must operate the two brake devices respectively in order to achieve the purpose mentioned above.
The present invention provides a brake device for a baby stroller, which has a rod extending downwardly from a transverse plate of the stroller such that an operator pushing the rod can actuate a brake means disposed to each of the rear wheels simultaneously to prevent the rear wheels of the stroller from turning so as to mitigate and/or obviate the above-mentioned problems.
The present invention provides a brake device for a baby stroller, which includes an operation element pivotally engaged to a transverse plate disposed between two shafts to each of which a rear wheel is disposed, the operation element has a first rod disposed inclinedly to the transverse plate and a second rod extending inclinedly and downwardly from an underside of the first rod, each of two ends of the first rod is pivotally engaged to a first end of a first link and a second end of the first link is pivotally engaged to a first end of a long link by a pin, a second end of the long link is pivotally engaged to a first end of a second link which is pivotally engaged to the shaft at a middle portion thereof, a second end of the second link is pivotally engaged to a brake plate via a pin extending through an inclined slot defined in the brake plate such that the brake plate is moved upwardly or downwardly by pushing the second rod of the operation element and the brake plate is engaged to a brake element disposed to the rear wheel when moved downwardly so as to prevent the rear wheel from turning.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a brake device which has a feature of operating an operation element thereof which can stop two rear wheels simultaneously.
Other objects, advantages, and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a brake device seen from a rear side of a baby stroller in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is an exploded view of the brake device in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 3 is a rear side elevational view, partly in section, of the brake device when not in an operated status;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, wherein an operation element is operated and two brake plates are moved downwardly to engage to a splined boss of each of the rear wheels;
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of the brake plate maintained above the splined boss of the rear wheel, and
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5, wherein the brake plate is moved downwardly to engaged to the splined boss of the rear wheel.
Referring to the drawings and initially to Figs. 1 and 2 which show a brake device in accordance with the present invention and a part of a baby stroller, the stroller has two shafts 10, each of the shafts 10 has a base 13 disposed to an end thereof and a pair of rear wheels 11 are rotatably disposed to the base 13, a transverse plate 12 is connected between the two shafts 10.
An operation element 12 has a first rod 21 inclinedly and pivotally engaged to the transverse plate 12 at a middle portion thereof and an integral second rod 22 extending downwardly at an angle from an underside of the first rod 21, the first rod 21 has two ends and each of the two ends has a first link 23 pivotally engaged thereto at a first end thereof, a second end of each first link 23 is pivotally engaged to a first end of a corresponding long link 24 by a pin 241, a second end of each long link 24 is pivotally engaged to a first end of a second link 25, the second link 25 is pivotally engaged to a protrusion 101 extending transversely from the shaft 10 at a middle portion thereof, a second end of each second link 25 is pivotally engaged to a corresponding brake plate 30.
A casing 40 has a tunnel 41 defined therein and extends vertically from a rear side thereof and has two transverse slots 42 defined separately therein. A vertical plate 121 extends vertically from the transverse plate 12 and extends through the tunnel 41 of the casing 40 such that the operation element 20 and the two first links 23 are disposed between the casing 40 and the transverse plate 12. Each of the transverse slots 42 allows the pins 241 to pass therethrough to pivotally engage the first link 23 and the long link 24.
Each of splined boss the pair of rear wheels 11 has a brake element, a splined boss 110 for example, disposed fixedly to an axle 111 of the rear wheel 11 and the axle 111 is extended through the base 13. The brake plate 30 has an inclined slot 31 defined therein, the second end of each second link 25 is pivotally engaged to one of the two the brake plates 30 via a pin 251 extending through the inclined slot 31. A recess 32 is defined in an underside of the brake plate 30 and a projection 33 projects laterally from the brake plate 30. The brake plate 30 is restricted to move upwardly and downwardly by a guiding means which has a block 131 projecting from the base 13 and the block 31 is received in the recess 32 such that the brake plate 30 can only be moved upwardly or downwardly.
Referring to Figs. 3 and 5, when the baby stroller is in a normal condition, the two pins 241 in the transverse slots 42 are positioned at a closest to each other position and the pin 251 is positioned at a lower end of the inclined slot 31 of the brake plate 30 such that the brake plate 30 is disposed above the splined boss 110 and the rear wheels 11 are rotatable.Referring to Figs. 4 and 6, when an operator pushes or kicks the second rod 22 of the operation element 20 aside, the engaged ends of the first link 23 and the long link 24 are moved along the transverse slot 42 of the casing 40 and the second end of each long link 24 pushes the end of the second link 25 engaged thereto to the right corresponding to the Fig. 4 such that the brake plate 30 is pushed downwardly via the pin 251 which is moved to the left side along the inclined slot 31 of the brake plate 30, therefore, the brake plate 30 is moved downwardly and the projections 33 are engaged to the respective splined bosss 110 of the pair of rear wheels 11 simultaneously so as to prevent the rear wheels 11 from turning.
Accordingly, the brake device in accordance with the present invention provides a feature where pushing or kicking the second rod 22 of the operation element 20 can lock both the rear wheels 11 of the baby stroller simultaneously.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made.
