Abstract
In a swivel chair which has a seat portion with a seat column extending downwardly therefrom and the seat column is rotatably engaged to a socket 202 the socket 202 has a plurality of receiving elements 22 extending laterally therefrom, each of the receiving elements has a slot 23 defined in a distal end thereof for receiving a leg 30 therein. The leg has a portion 31 at the inner end thereof which fits into slot 23 such that the leg is able to be disengaged from the receiving element when packaging and also the leg and the socket are able to be manufactured separately. Each leg also has a wheel mounted on the outer end thereof. <IMAGE>
Description
ENDACEMENI LEGS AND D A SOCKET OF A SWIM CEIR The present invention relates to an engagement of legs and a socket of a swivel chair, the legs are disengagably connected to a chair socket respectively by a bolt threadedly engaged therebetween so as to have advantages of facilitative packaging and molded manufacturing.
A conventional chair, especially for a swivel chair (shown in Fig. 1) generally has a seat portion 50, a seat column 51, a socket 60 and five legs 70, the seat column 50 generally has a threaded portion defined in an outer periphery thereof and extends downwardly from a bottom side of the seat portion 50 so as to threadedly insert into the socket 60, the five legs 70 each extend laterally from an outer periphery of the socket 60 so as to form a better support of the swivel chair. Each leg 70 has a wheel 71 rotatably engaged to an under side thereof such that the chair can be moved freely. However, such a structure of the socket 60 and the legs 70 is formed integrally and is adverse to be packaged and molded in manufacture.
The present invention intends to provide an engagement of legs and a socket of a swivel chair to mitigate and/or obviate the above-mentioned problems.
The present invention provides an engagement of legs and a socket of a swivel chair which has a seat portion with a seat column extending downwardly therefrom and the seat column is rotatably engaged to a socket which has a plurality of receiving elements extending laterally therefrom, each of the receiving elements has a slot defined in a distal end thereof for securely receiving a leg therein, the leg has a wheel rotatably disposed to an under side thereof.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an engagement of the leg and the receiving element of the socket with a simple manner.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a swivel chair whose legs and socket are able to be manufactured separately.
Other objects, advantages, and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a conventional swivel chair;
Fig. 2 is an exploded view of the socket and legs in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view, partly in section, of the engagement of the legs and the socket in accordance with the present invention, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the legs and the socket when collected separately.
Referring to the drawings and initially to Figs. 2 and 3, a swivel chair generally includes a seat portion (figures not shown) which has a seat column (figures not shown) extending downwardly from an under side thereof, a socket 20 and five legs 30, the socket 20 has a vertical tubular portion 201 which has a recess 202 defined in a top end thereof for receiving the seat columntherein, a plurality of receiving elements 22 each extend radially from a periphery of the tubular portion 201 and has a slot 23 defined in a distal end thereof and a threaded hole 24 defined in an under side thereof. The tubular portion 201 and each of the receiving elements 23 are composed of an inner metal layer and an outer plastic layer (see Fig. 3).Each of the legs 30 has a first end having a wheel 35 rotatably engaged to an under side thereof and a second end having an engaging portion 31 extending therefrom which has a threaded hole 34 defined in an under side thereof.
Referring now to Fig. 3 again, the engaging portion 31 is received in the slot 23 of the receiving element 22 and the threaded holes 24 and 34 are therefore in alignment with each other so as to threadedly receive a bolt 40 therethrough to securely engage the leg 30 and the receiving element 22 thereby.
Referring to Fig. 4, according to the present invention described above, the leg 30 and the receiving element 22 of the socket 20 are disengagably connected such that the leg 30 and the socket 20 are able to be manufactured and packaged separately and this means that chair a smaller mold is required compared to that of the conventional and has advantages of facilitative packaging and occupying less space.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Claims (2)
1. An engagement of legs and a socket of a swivel chair, said swivel chair comprising a seat portion, a seat rod, a socket and a plurality of legs, said seat column extending downwardly from an under side of said seat portion and rotatably engaged to said socket, said socket having a plurality of receiving elements extending laterally therefrom, each of said receiving elements having a slot defined in a distal end thereof, each of said legs having a first end and a second end, said first end thereof having a wheel rotatably engaged to an under side thereof and said second end thereof having an engaging portion extending therefrom for an insertion in to said slot of said receiving element.
2. The engagement as claimed in claim 1 wherein said engaging portion of each of said legs has a threaded hole defined in an under side thereof and said receiving element has a threaded hole defined in an under side thereof such that said leg is securely engaged to said receiving element by a bolt threadedly passing through said two threaded holes thereof.
