Roofs.-Alternate rows 2 of the roof bricks are suspended by their grooved heads 3 from the inturned flanges of pairs of channel or angle irons 4 extending across the full width of the furnace. The intermediate rows are carried by the suspended bricks. The bricks in the rows may be pressed together by screws or by struts inserted between two channel irons one fixed to the furnace bracing and the other in contact with the end blocks of the rows.
