Abstract

A wheeled undercarriage 11, known as the central stabiliser, fits into a central position under the bicycle chassis. Means for releasably securing and unsecuring the central stabiliser are by means of removing the rear chain stay clamps 4 and by use of locking nuts on the central post 2. <IMAGE>

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A CENTRALLY MOUNTED STABILISING DEVICE FOR A BICYCLE BACKGROUND BICYCLES ARE WELL KNOWN VEHICLES WHICH COMPRISE OF A WHEELED CHASSIS, PEDALS, SEAT, HANDLE BARS AND BRAKES ETC..
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL FEATURES ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION THERE IS PROVIDED A WHEELED UNDERCARRIAGE KNOWN AS THE CENTRAL STABILISER WHICH FITS INTO A CENTRAL POSITION UNDER THE BICYCLE CHASSIS. [FIG. 1] IT IS SECURED TO THE BICYCLE BY MEANS OF FRONT CLAMP PLATES 111. REAR CHAIN STAY CLAMPS [41, AND LOCKNUT [2).
THE CENTRAL STABILISER IS REMOVABLE BY MEANS OF RELEASING THE LOCKNUT [11 AND THE REAR CHAIN STAY CLAMPS 14] AS SHOWN tN FIG. 2 WHEN IN USE THE CENTRAL STABILISER PROVIDES GREATLY INCREASED RIDER STABILITY BY: la] PROVIDING LATERAL SUPPORT CLOSE TO THE RIDERS CENTRE OF GRAVITY.
[b] ALLOWING THE RIDER TO LEAN THE BICYCLE WHILST IN MOTION, BY MEANS OF THE ENTIRE STABILISER UNIT BEING ABLE TO DEFLECT VERTICALLY AGAINST THE RESISTANCE OF THE COIL SPRING [3] THE RESISTANCE OF THE COIL SPRING [3] IS ADJUSTABLE BY MEANS OF THE LOCKNUT [2] AND IN CONSEQUENCE VARYING DEGREES OF LATERAL SUPPORT FOR THE RIDER CAN BE ACCOMMODATED.
FUNCTION THE FUNCTION OF THE STABILISER WHEN THE BICYCLE IS IN MOTION IS TO GIVE TOTAL STABILITY TO THE RIDER.
WHEN THE BICYCLE IS RIDDEN OVER UNEVEN SURFACES THE COIL SPRING ON THE CENTRAL POST WILL ALLOW THE STABILISING WHEELS TO CLOSELY FOLLOW THE GROUND CONTOUR. THE COIL SPRING ALSO PROVIDES A CONTROLLED RESISTANCE TO LEANING' WHILST IN MOTION.
SPECIFICATION - REASON THE REASONS FOR THE INVENTION ARE BECAUSE I HAVE A MENTALLY HANDICAPPED SON. WITHOUT PROPER BALANCE HE HAD A LOT OF DIFFICULTY STAYING IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION WHILST RIDING A BICYCLE. THIS INVENTION GIVES HIM TOTAL STABILITY ON THE BICYCLE.
STABILISERS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR BICYCLES ARE FITTED TO THE REAR WHEEL AND ARE GENERALLY ONLY SUITABLE FOR 3 - 6 YEAR OLD CHILDREN. THIS CENTRAL STABILISER IS SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF WEIGHT OR AGE AND WILL EASILY FIT ALMOST ALL TYPES OF BICYCLE.
SPECIFICATION OF COMPONENTS 1. FRONT CLAMP PLATES 2. LOCKNUT 3. COIL SPRING 4. REAR CHAIN STAY CLAMPS, LEFT AND RIGHT 5. LONGITUDINAL STAYS, LEFT AND RIGHT 6. CENTRAL POST 7. BOTTOM BRACKET 8. THRUST PLATE 9. LONGITUDINAL STAY PIVOT 10. AXLE 11. AXLE PLATE 12. WHEELS

Claims (8)
