Abstract
An L-shaped plastics plate (2) is secured to the underside of a front portion of a toilet seat (3) so as to prevent urine from passing between said seat and the toilet bowl (4). <IMAGE>
Description
'Hygiene Plate' for toilet seats.
Generally speaking toilet seats are made in such a way that they rest above the toilet bowl on rubber buffers (or similar) leaving a gap between the seat and the toilet bowl of something in the order of 8-10 millimetres,
Circumstances frequently arise whereby urine penetrates between the seat and the bowl allowing urine to flow through the gap to the outside of the bowl fouling the area around the base of the toilet base.
The purpose of the 'Hygiene Plate' (Splash plate) is to prevent the escape of urine between the seat of the toilet and the toilet bowl thus preventing any escape of urine fron inside the bowl. The design is such that it can be added with ease to most any toilet seat manufactured over a period of the past thirty years or more.
To the best of the designer's knowledge there are no such items on the market and thus the design of the 'Hygiene Plate' and its use is 'Novel' and therefore patentable.
It is envisaged that the 'Hygiene Plate' be moulded in ABS plastic or similar material and that the plate complete with drill bit, drilling template and fixing glue be manufactured and sold in a complete kit form suitable for
DIY application.
The design lends itself to modification to precisely fit any design of toilet seat and bowl and could be incorporated in the design of new toilet seats to have the 'Hygiene Plate' as an integral part of the seat but it is assumed that this would be covered by the patent and any such copying would be a direct infringement of the patent rights.
With regard to the size of the plate this could vary tremendously but offer details of a preliminary size, measurements are given subject to alteration once the patent is accepted and the plate is put into manufacture. It is suggested that the size of the plate has no particular bearing on the design principle of the plate and in turn the patentable feature of the 'Hygiene Plate'.
The designer is confident that this 'Hygiene Plate' is needed by many thousands of householders thoughout the world who have experienced fouling of the toilet floor, toilet mats and carpets fitted in the toilets.
Claims (6)
1. Generally speaking toilet seats of a water closet are made in such
a way that they rest above the toilet bowl on rubber or plastic
buffers leaving a gap between the seat and the toilet bowl.
Circumstances arise whereby urine penetrates between the seat and
the bowl allowing urine to flow through the gap to the outside of the
bowl fouling the area around the base of the toilet.
2. The 'Hygiene plate' located centrally in front of the seat on the
underneath side is designed to prevent any escape of urine from the
inside of the bowl.
3. The design of the 'Hygeine plate' lends itself to modification both in
size and shape to suit various designs of toilet seats and bowls.
4. Although the 'Hygeine plate' is shewn as an item that can be added to
existing seats, it could be an incorporate design of a toilet seat made
to perform the same duty as the one added to the toilet seat.
5. It is claimed that the design is novel and therefore patentable.
6. It is envisaged that the fitting of the 'Hygeine plate' could be modified
to suit the material of which the seat is manufactured. Viz:
a. When being fitted to a wooden seat the plate could be supplied to
suit being fitted with countersunk screws.
b. When the plate is to fitted to plastic or similar material, the plate
would be located by location pins (Part of the plate) and secured by
a suitable adhesive compound or similar.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows
I claim: The one-piece- moulded plastic "Hygiene Plate" has been designed in such a way as to afford maximum protection for which purpose the plate is to be used, it also lends itself for
incorporating the use of double-suded waterproof tape and presented
in such a way that the plate during manufacture would be fitted
with one side of the tape adhered to the plate with the other
adhesive side covered with a protected paper. In this way
It could be offered up to the toilet seat (to ascertain its
suitability) and then by the removal of the paper from the
adhesive side, now exposed, can be fixed to the toilet seat.
In this way it is unique and will serve a useful service to
the public.
Note: The special double-sided waterproof tape nc'w produced
in Great Britain has been tested ror the application and has
proved successful.
