Abstract

A box-type trailer has a U-shaped chassis with hydraulic forks 11 which can be used to mount or demount a storage part of the trailer which is characterised in that the load box is mounted on a pallet base (12, Fig. 3). Thus the chassis portion can be used for other purposes whilst the load portion is in use for storage. Preferably the chassis guides the box part and the box part and the box part is releasably secured to the chassis by a telescopically sliding member. <IMAGE>

Description

DEMOUNTABLE PALLETIZED BOX TRAILER Ref: Patfrail This invention relates to a demountable palletized box trailer.
Box trailers are well known vehicles which comprise a wheeled chassis upon which a body having the form of a large box is permanently secured. There is a special type of box trailer known as a goods van trailer in which the box has a hinged door at the rear which opens to form accessto the inetrior of the box to form a mobile storage compartment.
Box trailers have to be loaded and unloaded by hand which can be time consuming and heavy work. This ties up the wheeled chassis and sometimes the car for a considerable period and when used for storage the wheel chassis and box remains idle and cannot be used.
According to the present invention there is provided a demountable palletized box.
Means of reasonable securing the body on the chassis. The palletized body being adapted to lower and raise the body from transport position to the ground inside the U shaped chassis the palletized body also being adapted to slide on and off the forks to the rear end of the chassis when the chassis is moved forward the palletized box is left free standing on the ground allowing the box to be unloaded and loaded at almost ground level while the chassis is left free to collect another box for transportation.
The palletized system allows for varying shaped plafforms or containers to be handled to suit warying materials eg. liquid containers. A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which.
Figure 7 Shows in perspective the trailer with the palletized box in position on the chassis on the chassis ready for transportation.
Figure2 Illustrative the seperation of the palletized box from the chassis.
Figure3 Shows the palletized box fully lowered on the ground.
Refering to the drawing the trailer comprised a wheel chassis (10) and a palletized box (12) in the form of a box releasably secured to the chassis by, for example, slide bolt (13) which is pulled out from the side of the base of the box or pallet. Allowing the palletized box to be lowered to the ground by opening the hydraulic tap and lowering the forks (14). There of allowing the chassis to be pulled forward leaving the palletized box ( free standing on the ground.
To remount the palletized body on to the chassis the steps described above are carried out in the reverse sequence.
Figure4 Show the front view of the palletized box fully lowered onto the ground.

Claims (5)

Claims
1. A demountable palletized item (12) box trailer comprising a single or twill axle wheeled 'U' shaped chassis in item(1 0) in plan view allowing the chassis to be moved in reverse to embrace the free standing palletized box situated on tile ground and the said box is hence positioned in the chassis such that the centre of gravity of the box and the pay load is situated allowing correct distribution of the load on wheels and tow bar.
A further hydraulic powered fork lift structure (11) is positioned at the front adjacent end of the chassis allowing fork to lie close to the ground and simultaniously as the chassis is moved in reverse tile forks pierce the Rotes in the base of tile palletized box allowing the forks when raised by hydraulically extending the cylinder to lift the palletized box into transport position where it is releasably secured to tile chassis (13).
2. A demountable palletized box trailer as claimed in claim 1 where in guide means are provided on the side of the body. Co-operable with the side of the chassis to assist in the control of the sliding movement of the body onto the chassis and forks.
3. A demountable palletized box trailer as in claim 1 or claim 2, the forks are hydraulically raised lifting the palletized box off the ground into the trailer transportation position.
4. A demountable palletized box trailer as claimed ill any proceeding claim where in tile palletized box is releasably secured (locked) to the chassis by means of telescopic support sliding under the pallet and subsequently lowered onto supporting lock for transportation.
5. A demountable palletized box trailer as claimed in claim 4 where in the loaded trailer is to transport to tile delivery point and the reverse above proceedure is applied unlocking the palletized box lowering to the ground and driving forward leaving the palletized box free standing on the ground. Allowing the trailer to return to the base and collect another palletized box or pallatized platform.
6 A demountable palletized box trailer as described here 110 with reference to Fig 1-4 of the accompanying drawings
