Abstract

The provision for dentists of matrix bands to contour fillings is common place. The shaping and contouring of the band itself is unreliable especially in the areas of contact with adjacent teeth. The present matrix band is constructed so that it can be fixed in the correct position, once achieved, by shining visible or UV light on the band. The band will then cure, and be fixed in this position.

Description

DESCRIPTION Light cured dental matrix band The invention relates to a dental device commonly known as a "Matrix Band".
Matrix bands are used to give shape to a dental restoration or filling while it is being placed by a dentist.
The purpose of the band is to give shape to a filling where it is filling in voids in the tooth structure which would otherwise be difficult to contour.
The band is sometimes held in position by a holder. This band may or may not need a holder.
The principal job of a matrix band is to give a good contact point for the filling to the next tooth, and to give the filling a good contour.
This band is placed to the dentis's satisfaction - if necessary using a holder - and is then set in position by shining on it either visible or ultra-violet light.
The band is made from a material which can be bent and adjusted to the required shape for the dentist to provide the optimum contour for the filling which will be placed in the band.
When this contour is achieved the dentist or another person shines a light on the band which holds it in this position while the dental filling sets.
The shape or shapes of band available will allow the ready contouring of the unset band around the tooth to establish good contour and contact point. A matrix band holder and wedges may be used to assist - but are not included in this application. The setting of the band in this ideal position by exposure to light is the essential technical feature. This is achieved by building the band from suitable materials at the manufacturing stage.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIM
Light cured dental matrix band That a band is constructed to contour and establish contact points to the neighbouring teeth for the purpose of acting as a shaping matrix for a dental filling which will be placed and set within the matrix band. Holders and wedges may be used in conjunction with the band.
