Description
2289618 1 Extractor for a frame for telecommunication equipment The
invention relates to an extractor for a f rame for telecommunication equipment, intended to be f astened at its two opposite vertical sides to a vertical equipment rack.
- In carrying out wiring of telecommunication frames containing plug-in units, the frame must be at least partially drawn out f rom the rack. In such a situation, the frame must be supported in some way. The simplest and most awkward way is to support the frame by hand, in which case at least two persons are needed for the work. Another way is to mount f ixed rails to the sides of the frame, but this is an expensive solution and will, moreover, leave less room for the plugin units in the frame.
It is an object of the present invention to eliminate this drawback. This is achieved with an extractor of the invention, which is characterized in that the extractor comprises first extractor members removably fastened to fixing projections on said opposite sides of the frame and second extractor members removably fixed to the outer surfaces of the rack that face said fixing projections at the location of the first extractor members, the first extractor member being adapted on each side of said arrangement to be sup ported by the second extractor member and to be slidable relative thereto.
The present invention is based on the idea of using removable extractor units to be fastened in fixing holes provided preferably in the frame and rack for attachment of said extractor units. The extractor units can be used in the initial mounting and subsequent mountings of the frame. The extractor units are pri- 2 marily intended to be detached after use, but they can also be left in place if necessary.
The relative sliding of the first and second extactor members is preferably provided by arranging the first and second extractor members to be slidable one within the other.
Since the extractor of the invention will be completely outside the frame and rack, it will not diminish the available breadth of the frame, as do fixed, costly rail arrangements to be installed between the frame and rack.
The invention can be implemented in all circumstances where frames are fitted with plug-in units and where the frame must be more or less drawn out from the rack to perform or facilitate wiring. A considerable advantage is also the fact that one mechanic can perform all operations relating to wiring.
The invention can be utilized for example in connection with racks in accordance with standards IEC 297-2 and EN 60917.
in the following, the invention will be explained in detail by way of example only by means of a preferred embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a frame and rack to which an extractor of the invention is attached, and Figure 2 is an enlargement of an extractor unit arranged on one side of the frame.
In the drawing, reference numeral 1 denotes a telecommunications frame and reference 2 denotes the upright beams of the equipment rack, between which the frame 1 is located.
The extractor of the invention comprises first extractor members 3 removably fastened to fixing proj ections la provided in two opposite vertical sides-"of the frame and second extractor members 4 removably fixed to the outer surfaces of the upright beams 2 of the rack, If i 3 facing said fixing projections la at the location of the first extractor members 3.
The first extractor member 3 is arranged on both sides of the frame 1 to be supported by the second ex tractor member 4 and to be slidablethereover. Further more, the extractor members 3 and 4 can be secured immovably to one another by screws 5 when the frame 1 is drawn out from the rack to the extreme position de limited by the extractor in accordance with Figure 1.
In this exemplary case, the first extractor mem ber 3 is a substantially U-shaped body bent from sheet material, which when fixed to the frame provides a slide lug for the second extractor member 4 which is also bent from sheet material and shaped into an elon gated rectangular body.
The extractor members 3 and 4 are intended to be fastened in fixing holes for securing together the frame 1 and rack, for instance with fixing screws equi valent to the fixing screws for the frame 1. The fixing screws for extractor member 3 are denoted by reference 6 and the fixing screws for extractor member 4 with reference 7.
In the following, mounting of the frame 1 into the rack by means of the extractor of the invention will be described.
The extractor members 3 and 4 are fastened toget her with screws 5. The units made up by members 3 and 4 are fastened with screws 6 to fixing projections la provided on the opposite vertical sides of the frame 1.
The frame 1 is fastened to the upright beams 2 of the rack either with one or two screws 7 depending on the spacing of the holes in the beams of the rack; normally at least the uppermost screw must be threaded in. The necessary wiring and mounting work is carried out.
Screws 5 are turned (for example half a turn) so that members 3 and 4 will be detached, and the frame 1 is pushed into the rack, normally about 50 mm. The frame 4 1 is secured to the rack, and as a last step, the members 3 and 4 of the extractor are detached from the frame 1 and from the upright beams 2 of the rack.
The description and the drawing relating thereto are only intended to illustrate the invention. Those skilled in the art can, howeverf implement the details of the invention in many alternative ways within the scope of the attached claims.
