Abstract

A hot water cylinder has a water draw off arrangement comprising a hole drilled near the bottom of the cylinder and a flexible hose (6) attached to the hole, supported at the opposite end by a float (7). Thus the hottest water in the cylinder i.e. the water at the top, can be drawn off as in a conventional cylinder to a tap, refilling during drawing off being via a valve in the cold water feed. The arrangement enables the cylinder to be emptied via the hot tap. <IMAGE>

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD This invention relates to a domestic hot water cylinder BACKGROUND Domestic hot water cylinders are used in the majority of homes and small businness in Great Britain.
They are used to provide domestic hot water, heated via means of a central heating coil, or an electric immersion heater.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL FEATURES according to the present invention hot water is drawn off, via a pipe attached to the top of the cylinder, the water is replaced through a pipe attached near the bottom of the cylinder. Hot water is lighter than cold water, so therefore the cooler water will remain at the bottom allowing the warmest water to be used first.
The drawback to this system is, that to empty the cylinder you must either attach a temporary hose to the cold water inlet pipe, or insert a hose into the top of the cylinder and syphon off the water.
My invention consists of a length of hose pipe, one end attached to a float so that it rises to the highest point within the cylinder, the other end of the hose is attached to a new outlet near the bottom of the cylinder.
The hose and float are prevented from fouling on the central heating coil, by means of guides attached to the inside of the cylinder.
Figure 1. Side view shows the hose at its highest level, when the cylinder is full of water it also shows a typical pipe guide.
Figure 2. Top view shows how a pipe is kept close to the inside of the cylinder by means of the pipe guides.
Figure 3. Side view shows an electrically operated valve on the cold water feed pipe, this can be used to stop the flow of cold water into the cylinder, thus allowing all of the hot water in the cylinder to be used without, being cooled by the influx of cold water.

Claims (1)

  1. My invention will give the user the benefit of drawing the water off at the warmest point, but also being able to empty the cylinder at the hot tap.
