Abstract
A cables or hose protector comprises an outer tube 5 which can hold, centrally spaced within, a cable or hose 1 or a smaller diameter. The device can be held at either end with holding means provided 2 and extended or compressed along the length of the cable or hose, and held in either state on the cable or hose with releasable securing devices 8 in both ends. As the device is of a larger diameter than the cable or hose it will be more visible and will shield the cable or hose. The manufacture of the device predominantly from coloured material which would make it colour visible in its use environment would be a benefit. Means to stop flow through the cable or hose may be provided. The extendibility and compressibility would allow space saving storage of the device. <IMAGE>
Description
Cable or Hose Protector
This invention relates to a cable or hose protection device.
Electrical wires or cables (referred to as cables on this page and the following) and hoses that carry liquids, solids or gases (referred to as hoses on this page and the following) are very commonly used in the home and throughout industry. Damage to such cables or hoses can be dangerous and in-convenient, for example electrical lawnmower cables are often cut by the lawnmower itself when not seen.
Version 1 (Relates to illustrations Fig 1, Fig 2, Fig 5, Fig 6)
According to my present invention there is provided a cable or hose protector comprising an outer tube which can be extended or compressed, by means of for example making the tube to a concertina design or similar means (not shown). Means for holding centrally spaced within it a cable or hose of a smaller diameter would be provided, for example a smaller diameter concertina tube attached centrally within the outer tube, one or multiple solid or partially solid dividers attached at set intervals inside the device with centrally locating holes or similar means (not shown). The device will be when extended or compressed many times larger in diameter than the cable or hose held inside. Means for holding the device at either end are provided at either end of the device, for example a handle or handles or similar means (not shown).
The device will add further protection to the cable or hose held inside it by means of the material it is made from, for example plastic for insulation, or other materials (not mentioned) with similar or other protection qualities (not mentioned). The device will be as or more visible against a relevant background than the cable or hose by means of the colour of the material of manufacture, for example bright red plastic against green grass or other colours (not mentioned) of materials (not mentioned) against other environments (not mentioned). Means for releasably securing either end of the device onto a cable or hose in its centre are provided, for example sprung clamps or similar means (not shown). Means (possibly as an option) are provided to allow the device to cut of the flow through the cable or hose held within it, for example an electrical filament running through the full length of the exterior fabric of the device once or multiple times and exiting at a point that if an electrical current was passed through it and the ends of the filament were connected to a circuit break detection device which in turn was connected in the required way to the hose or cable that if the exterior of the device and therefore the filament was severed the flow through the cable or hose could be stopped, or similar means (not shown)
A Specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig 1 & Fig 5 shows the cable or hose protector extended over cable or hose 1
Fig 2 & Fig 6 shows, the cable or hose protector compressed over the hose or cable 1.
Referring to the drawing the device comprises an outer extendible and compressible, by means of the use of a concertina design or similar means (not shown), tube 5. Held centrally within the outer tube 5 is a cable or hose 1, by means of a smaller diameter centrally attached tube 6 which is extendible and compressible, by means of the use of a concertina design or similar means (not shown), one or multiple solid or partially solid dividers 4 attached at set intervals throughout the inside of tube 5 with centrally locating holes or similar means (not shown).
The outer skin of the device 5 has an electrical filament 3 running through its full length, once or multiple times, and exiting 7 at a point on the outer tube 5.
Means are provided to hold either end of the device for example Handles 2 at either side, or similar means (not shown). Means to releasably secure either end of the device onto the cable or hose 1 held inside it are provided at either end of the device for example sprung clamps 8, or similar means (not shown).
The device would be implemented by threading the cable or hose 1 through one end of the device 9 and out ofthe other end whilst the device is compressed, see Fig 2 / Fig 6, securing one end of the device onto the cable or hose using the releasable securing device provided 8 and then extending the device with the aid of the device end holders 2 and applying the other releasable securing device 8 to hold the position, which would leave the device in an extended state Fig 1 / Fig 5.
The device could be taken off the cable by carrying out the steps in the last paragraph in reverse order.
Version 2 (Relates to illustrations Fig 3, Fig 4, Fig 7, Fig 8)
According to my present invention there is provided a cable or hose protector comprising an outer tube which can be extended or compressed, by means of for example making the tube to a concertina design or similar means (not shown). Means for holding centrally spaced within it a cable or hose of a smaller diamater would be provided, for example a smaller diameter concertina tube attached centrally within the outer tube, one or multiple solid or partially solid dividers attached at set intervals inside the device with centrally locating holes or similar means (not shown).
A Specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig 3 / Fig 7 shows the cable or hose protector extended over cable or hose 1.
Fig 4 / Fig 8 shows, the cable or hose protector compressed over the hose or cable 1.
Referring to the drawing the device comprises an outer extendible and compressible, by means of the use of a concertina design or similar means (not shown), tube 5. Held centrally within the outer tube 5 is a cable or hose 1, by means of a smaller diameter centrally attached -.-Jbe 6 which is extendible and compressible, by means of the use of a concertina design or similar means (not shown) , one or multiple solid or partially solid dividers 4 attached at set intervals throughout the inside tube 5 with centrally locating holes or similar means (not shown).
Means are provided to hold either end of the device for example Handles 2 at either side, or similar means (not shown). Means to releasably secure either end of the device onto the cable or hose 1 held inside it are provided at either end of the device for example sprung clamps 8, or similar means (not shown).
The device would be implemented by threading the cable or hose through one end of the device 9 and out of the other end whilst the device is compressed, see Fig 4 / Fig 8, securing one end of the device onto the cable or hose using the releasable securing device provided 8 and then extending the device with the aid of the device end holders 2 and applying the other releasable securing device 8 to hold the position, which would leave the device in an extended state Fig 3 I Fig 7.
The device could be taken off the cable by carrying out the steps in the last paragraph in reverse order.
