Description
TITLE: Box
DESCRIPTION
This invention concerns a box.
An object of this invention is to provide a box suitable for holding several identical articles and which is tamper evident.
According to this invention there is provided a box suitable for holding several identical articles and which is tamper evident, the box having a lid having a hinged portion, hinging of which is possible only on removal of one or more, preferably two, parts of the lid.
Preferably sides of the lid at opposite ends of a hinge line have removable parts, such as triangular portions, whereby on removal thereof, the hinged portion may be raised to reveal contents of the box and allow their removal. The removable parts are preferably delimited by perforated lines. The box may also include a side opening.
The hinge of the lid is preferably provided by a crease line across the lid.
The hinged portion may have its sides glued to the box base preferably in isolated spots, whereby force is required to break the glue in order to lift the hinged portion.
The removable part of the lid may be a tab which is preferably part of a front wall of the lid. The tab is preferably adhered to an underlying part of the box base, so that once the tab has been separated from the lid, the lid can be raised. The box lid according to the invention may have both the tab and the removable side parts.
The box preferably comprises a base and a lid formed from a single blank. Apart from the hinged part of the lid, which preferably forms a minor portion thereof, the lid is preferably adhered to the box base,
To facilitate removal of items from the box an end of the box base may have a fold down portion preferably delimited by perforated lines.
This invention will now be further described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a blank for a box;
Figure 2 is a side view of a box formed from the blank of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a top view of the box of Figure 3;
Figure 4 is an end view of the box of Figure 3 with its hinged lid raised;
Figure 5 shows a second box according to the invention;
Figure 6 shows a blank for forming this box according to the invention;
Figure 7 shows the box formed from the blank of
Figure 6; and
Figure 8 shows the box of Figure 7 partially opened.
Referring to Figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawings, a blank 10 of cardboard for a box has two connected components 12 and 14 for forming a box base B and a box lid L respectively. Generally in the drawings fold lines are indicated by F, crease lines by C and perforations by P. The component 14 has a rectangular central section 16 with flaps 18, 20, 22 and 24 formed on each respective side of the central section 16.
These flaps are folded at right angles to the central section in forming the lid and ends of the flaps 18 and 22 are folded around and adhered to the faces of the flap 20 to give the lid stability.
Opposed flaps 18 and 22 each have a removable triangular portion 26 formed by perforated lines 28.
The portions 26 have their apexes meeting the central section 16 across which is a crease line 32.
The flap 24 actually forms a common side with the base forming section 12. The base section 12 has a central section 33 and flaps 34, 36 and 38 on its other three edges. These are folded at right angles to form the base and the ends of flaps 34 and 38 are folded around and adhered to the face of flap 36. At or near the ends of flap 36 perforated lines 40 are formed so that the flap can be folded down if desired for removal of contents of the box.
Thus, the box produced from the blank has a lid having a fold up hinged part 46, which can only be used once the triangular portions have been removed. The base and lid are glued together along their overlapping sides in the region of the triangular removable portions and beyond to the end of the box preferably in one or two spots, so that force is required to break the glue spots to remove the triangular portions and to raise the hinged part 46. The absence or presence of the removable triangular portions, therefore, indicates whether the box has been opened. For some articles it may only be necessary to raised the hinged portion 46 to allow their removal. For others the flap 36 may need to be folded down by breaking the perforated lines 40.
In Figure 5 a box 50 is shown that is similar to the box of Figures 1 to 4 except that its fold up hinged part 52 of its lid 54 is formed of the longer dimension of the box rather than its shorter dimension. In the same way as the embodiment of Figures 1 to 4 there are tear off triangular sections 56, which when removed allow the hinged flap 52 to be folded back along crease line 58 to open the box.
Turning to Figures 6 to 8 of the accompanying drawings, a blank 100 of cardboard for a box has two connected components 102 and 104 for forming a box base
X and a box lid Y respectively. Generally in these drawings fold lines are indicated by F, crease lines by
C and perforation by P.
The component 104 has a rectangular central section 106 with flaps 108, 110, 112 and 114 formed on each respective side of the central section 106. These flaps are folded at right angles to the central section in forming the lid. The flap, 112 has end flaps 116 beyond the box which are folded back under the side flaps 108 and 110 in the formed box. The flap 112 further has a removable tab portion 118 formed in its front edge by shaped cut-outs 120 at each end of the tab and perforations 122 linking the cut-outs. In the formed box only the tab portion 118 of the flap 112 is adhered to an underlying surface.
Opposed flaps 108 and 110 each have a removable triangular portion 124 formed by perforated lines 126.
The portions 124 have their apexes meeting the central section 106 across which is a crease line 128.
The flap 114 actually forms a common side with the base forming section 102 and has end flaps 130. The base section 102 has a central section 132 and flaps 134, 136 and 138 on its other three edges. The flap 136 also has end flaps 140. The flaps 114, 134, 136 and 138 are folded at right angles to form the base and the end flaps 130 and 140 are folded around and adhered to overlying flaps to form the box base.
Thus, the box produced from this blank has a lid having a fold-up hinged part 142, which can only be folded up when the triangular portions 124 and the tab 118 have been removed. The base and lid are glued together along their overlapping sides up to the triangular portions 124. These portions are glued down with only a very small amount of glue so that they can be readily removed and the sides beyond the triangular portions 124 in the region of the fold-up part of the lid are not glued together.
As with the previous embodiment, the absence or presence of the triangular portion 124 and or the tab 118 indicates whether the box has been opened.
