Abstract

The invention is to provide a means of separation of steel sheets, without requiring participation of a machinist. This is accomplished by the use of magnets housed within a box which attaches to the side of the steel pack. The magnets are preferably anistropic ferrite blocks placed in tandem, with like poles facing outwards, on a steel plate, which incorporates a fixing tongue. This in turn is housed within a holder and the whole face of the unit is covered with a stainless steel sheath. <IMAGE>

Description

STEEL SHEET SEPARATOR This invention relates to a steel sheet separator Steel sheets and blanks are supplied to many industries.
In the past machines which produced this material, were not of such sophistication as to make packs of steel difficult to separate individual sheets by hand, though it was still time consuming. Present day technology means that steel blanks and sheets are produced to finer tolerances and are packed by machine, thus when a pack is in its finished form it appears almost as a solid block and teasing apart of individual sheets by the machine operator is even more difficult.

Claims (1)

  1. The invention is fixed to the side wall of any bundle of closely packed steel. This would be by means of a steel tongue (2), which would be forced between the supporting pallet or the bottom two sheets of the pack. Its own magnetism would hold it firm to the pack edge. By the face having the magnetic field of one polarity, the pack becomes a temporary magnet of the like polarity. Thus as like poles repel, the top sheet is pushed away from the rest of the pack. ,Only one sheet is affected at a time, as the second sheet is held in place by its own weight and the downward force of the displaced sheet. On removal of the top sheet the process repeats itself, and this continues until the final two sheets. (See Fig 3).
    By manufacturing all units with the magnets polarities facing the same way, the modules can be used in pairs (See Fig 4).
    The magnets are housed in a holder, and form a strong pull and as such require a handle of sufficient robustness to remove it from the pack (See Fig 2).
