Abstract
A multi-view, variable-panel strip displayer has a number of panels (Fig 5) which can be attached or detached via a removable hinge 12 that can be operated easily by the lay user to add or remove any number of panels to form a strip displaying board. These panels (Fig 5) have a small lip 15 all around the panel which holds the strips in place. As the panels can be hinged along either the long or short sides it is possible to use one set of panels to display two different strip sizes, in either a vertical or horizontal view. This makes it possible to read the strip information on a horizontal strip (Fig 2 and Fig 4), left to right and the traditional vertical strip view reading the strip information top to bottom Fig 1 (and Fig 3). <IMAGE>
Description
MULTI-VIEW, VARIABLE-PANEL, STRIP DISPLAYER
This invention relates to a Multi-View, Variable-Panel, Strip Displayer.
Strip displayers are a well known scheduling tool, always comprising an even fixed number of panels (oblong in shape), and only able to display strips (of various numbers) in a vertical, i.e. portrait view.
The panels once filled with strips, are able by the fixed (360 hinge, to open out flat for display and concertina together for easy transport. The strips which contain the schedule information are held in place by a small lip at the top and bottom of the panels.
Strip displays are, relatively expensive, due to the specialised nature of their use. The problem is that strip displayers are of a fixed even number of panels, normally 8, however, most people find they either need more or less panels. As the traditional strip displayers are of fixed number of panels you either end up canying around an 8 panel board which is only half full or carrying around two or more 8 panel boards, with the second or final boards being nearly empty. Also, recent computer technology has resulted in two emerging strip sizes. This has resulted in the user needing to purchase two different sizes of strip displayers, always with an even fixed number of panels.
According to the present invention there is provided a multi-view, variable-panel strip displayer comprising panels being joined by a detachablelattachable hinge. The hinge can be positioned along either the long or short side of each panel. This enables a variable number of panels (odd or even) to be joined together to form boards of any length in either a portrait mode or landscape mode, with the number of panels always able to expand or contract to equal the number of strips you need to display.
As the panels can be joined to display in either a portrait or landscape mode and as each panel is oblong, it is possible to display two different strip sizes in one board, with a variable numbers of panels, in either portrait or landscape mode. As the panels can be rotated, by using the two different strip sizes, the strips can be displayed vertically or horizontally whilst the panels are in either portrait or landscape mode. Therefore, the short and long strip can display their information to be read in the traditional top to bottom direction and in a horizontal, left to right direction.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 shows the panels joined by the detachable hinge 12 on the longer side, giving a portrait
view. This enables the first strip size 16 (the long size), to be inserted vertically to display
information to be read top to bottom. The vertically positioned strips are held in position top
and bottom by a small lip 15 under which the ends of the strips are inserted.
FIGURE 2 shows the panels joined by the detachable hinge on the longer side, giving a portrait view.
This enables the second strip size 16 (the shorter size), to be inserted horizontally to display
information to be read left to right, in a horizontal manner, giving a completely new view that
was not possible with previously displays panels. The horizontally positioned strips are held
in position left and right by a small lip 15 under which the ends of the strips are inserted.
FIGURE 3 shows the panels joined by the detachable hinge 12 on the shorter side, giving a landscape
view. This enables the second strip size 16 (the shorter size), to be inserted vertically to
display information to be read top to bottom. The vertically positioned strips are held in
position top and bottom by a small lip 15 under which the ends of the strips are inserted.
FIGURE 4 shows the panels joined by the detachable hinge 12 on the short side, giving a landscape
view. This enables the first strip size 16 (the longer size), to be inserted horizontally to
display information to be read left to right, giving a completely new view that was not
possible with previous displays panels. The horizontally positioned strips are held in position
left and right by a small lip 15 under which the ends of the strips are inserted.
FIGURE 5 shows an individual panel.
Refening to the drawings the Multi-View, Variable-Panel, Strip Displayer comprises of panels 10 and an easily attachableldetachable hinge 12 to secure the panels together. The panels 10 can, using the attachableldetachable hinge 12 be joined along either the long 13 or short 14 sides. By rotating the panels into either a portrait Fig 1 & Fig 2 or landscape mode Fig 3 & Fig 4 and attaching or detaching the hinges along either the long 13 or short 14 sides it is possible to have one set of panels that can display the two different sizes of strips 16. The strips 16 are held in either a horizontal or vertical position with the panel in either portrait or landscape view by a small lip 15 around the panel.
In order to make a board Fig 1 & Fig 2 & Fig 3 & Fig 4 of as many panels Fig 5 as are needed, for the required number of strips, the required number of panels 10 are joined together using the easily attachableldetachable hinge 12 in order to form a complete display board Fig 1 & Fig 2 & Fig 3 & Fig 4.
The attachableldetachable hinge 12 must be able to open through 360 enabling the panels to be opened for easy display and concertina together for easy transport.
As the hinge 12 can be positioned along either the long 13 or short 14 sides, the panels 10 can display the strips vertically, either the long strips whilst the panels are in portrait view mode Fig 1 or the short strips whilst the panels are in landscape view mode Fig 3, enabling the strip 16 information to be read from top to bottom. The boards whilst displaying in portrait mode Fig 2 and landscape mode Fig 4 can also display strips 16 in a horizontal manner enabling the strip information to be read left to right. The panels Fig 5 can be made in any height or width to accommodate any future strip sizes.
Claims (4)
1. A multi-view, variable-panel strip displayer comprising panels being joined by a detachablelattachable hinge. The hinge can be positioned along either the long or short side of
each panel. This enables a variable number of panels (odd or even) to be joined together to form
boards of any length in either a portrait mode or landscape mode, with the number of panels always
able to expand or contract to equal the number of strips you need to display. As the panels can be
joined to display in either a portrait or landscape mode and as each panel is oblong, it is possible to
display two different strip sizes in one board, with a variable numbers of panels, in either portrait or
landscape mode. As the panels can be rotated, by using the two different strip sizes, the strips can
be displayed vertically or horizontally whilst the panels are in either portrait or landscape mode.
Therefore, the short and long strip can display their information to be read in the traditional top to
bottom direction and in a horizontal, left to right direction.
2. A multi-view, variable-panel strip displayer comprising a number of panels that can be easily hinged
along either the long or short sides to make a board as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the attachableldetachable hinge can be operated easily by the lay user to add or remove any number
of panels.
3. A multi-view, variable-panel strip displayer comprising a number of panels as Claimed in Claim 1
and Claim 2 wherein the panels can hold two different strip sizes, which can be used to display
information in either a vertical or horizontal view, with the panels in either portrait or landscape
mode.
4. A multi-view, variable-panel strip displayer substantially as described herein with reference to
Figures 1-5 of the accompanying drawing.
