Abstract
The invention relates to a hierarchical synchronization method for a telecommunications system employing message-based synchronization and comprising a plurality of nodes interconnected by transmission lines (A, B). In the method, the nodes interchange signals containing synchronization messages with information on the priority of the respective signal in the internal synchronization hierarchy of the system, and the node enters into a predetermined standard state for a preset time period in a change situation, such as a failure situation, in order to prevent the selection of faulty synchronization messages. In order to speed up the synchronization of the system in failure situations and to avoid any resettings in connection with system changes, the minimum duration of said time period is equal to a time (K) required for the neighbouring nodes of the node to be informed of the transition of the node into said standard state and to respond to the change and for the node itself to be informed by the neighbouring nodes about their response. <IMAGE>
