Abstract

228,586. White, C. H., and Amoedo, T. F. Sept. 29, 1923. Labelling or marking animals.-A tool for marking the ears of animals and for other uses comprises pivoted tool-holding arms a, Fig. 1, which are forced together against a spring H by rollers E' on bell-crank hand-levers d. Spindles J, Figs. 7, and 8, fixed to the arms a, carry discs K, one of which carries needles O. Needle guides N are arranged in a casing comprising spring-pressed relatively-slidable parts R, P. which enclose the disc K and form an ink reservoir. The other disc K has detachably mounted thereon a third needle guide disc N. The arms a are forced together so as to hold the animal's ear firmly between supporting members L, and on further pressure being applied, the needles penetrate the ear, without danger of tearing it. On releasing the pressure, the needles are immediately withdrawn by the spring E.
