Description

GLUE APPLYING KIT FOR CARPENTER FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates generally to a glue applying kit for carpenters, and more particularly to a carpenter's kit for applying effectively the glue on the inner fringe of a slot.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In general, the conventional methods of fastening two wooden plates involve the use of arcuate or cylindrical fastening slots disposed oppositely in the two wooden plates intended to be fastened. The fastening slots are coated appropriately with glue and then inserted thereinto an insertion piece by which the two wooden plates are held together . Another commonly used method of fastening two wooden plates comprises a dovetail retainer and a dovetail slot, which are disposed oppositely in the two wooden plates intended to be fastened. The dovetail slot is coated appropriately with glue for holding securely therein the dovetail retainer.
The process of coating with glue of the fastening slot or the dovetail slot described above is generally done by means of a brush, which is imbued appropriately with glue so as to spread the glue on the inner wall of the fastening slot or the dovetail slot. However, the application of the glue on the inner wall of the fastening slot or the dovetail slot can not be done well and easily in view of the fact that the fastening slot or the dovetail slot is not so wide as to permit the brush to enter thereinto freely. As a result, the inner wall of the fastening slot or the dovetail slot is often not coated evenly with the glue.
In addition, it is rather time-consuming and inconvenient to apply the glue on the two planar surfaces of the two wooden plates intended to be fastened without the use of the fastening slot or the dovetail slot.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is therefore the primary objective of the present invention to provide a glue applying kit, which facilitates a carpenter to apply glue evenly on two wooden plates intended to be fastened.
It is another objective of the present invention to provide a glue applying kit, which facilitates a carpenter to apply glue evenly in the fastening slots or the planar surfaces of the two wooden plates intended to be fastened.
It is still another objective of the present invention to provide a glue applying kit with a kit bottle in which the kit may be kept temporarily to prevent the glue on the kit from becoming coagulated at such time when the carpenter's work is interrupted.
The foregoing objectives of the present invention are attained by a carpenter's glue applying kit, which comprises mainly a container, a connection member, and at least one nozzle. The container is used to contain glue and provided with an outlet to which the connection member is fastened.
The nozzle is fastened to the connection member and provided with a first axial hole and an extension portion having a second axial hole in communication with the first axial hole. The nozzle can be so extended as to reach any portion of the fastening slots or the dovetail slots of the wooden plates intended to be fastened together. The glue contained in the container is drawn out via the first and the second axial holes to spread evenly on the inner wall of the fastening slots or the dovetail slots.
The nozzle is provided with a head of a predetermined shape and suitable for spreading evenly the glue in the fastening slots, the dovetail slots, or the planar surfaces of the two wooden plates intended to be fastened together.
The glue applying kit of the present invention further comprises a kit bottle for use in keeping therein the nozzles so as to prevent the glue in the nozzles from becoming coagulated at such time when the nozzles are not in use temporarily.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to all drawings provided herewith, a carpenter's glue applying kit 10 embodied in the present invention is shown to comprise a glue container 11, a connection member 12, a plurality of first, second and third nozzles 13, 14 and 15, a kit bottle 16, and a tray 17 for keeping the component parts mentioned above.
The glue container 11 of hollow cylindrical construction is made of a squeezable plastic material and provided at one end thereof with a neck 20 having a threaded outer wall surface engageable with a cap 21.
The connection member 12 of cylindrical construction has an open end facing downwards and having a threaded inner wall surface engageable with the threaded outer wall surface of the neck 20 of the glue container 11. The connection member 12 is provided centrally in an upper end thereof with a through hole 22 having a diameter slightly greater than the outer diameter of a first body 24 but smaller than the inner diameter of the open end.
The first nozzle 13 is made integrally and provided with a first body 24 of cylindrical construction and having an appropriate length. The first body 24 is provided with a first axial hole 25 having an open end facing inwards, with an annular fringe 26 of an appropriate width and raised along the outer edge of the inner end of the first body 24, and further with a first extension portion 27 of an appropriate length and extending axially from the outer end of the first body 24. The first extension portion 27 is provided with a second axial hole 28 in communication with the first axial hole 25. Located at the tail end of the first extension portion 27 is a first head 29 having two end surfaces 30 opposite to each other. The two end surfaces 30 are provided thereon with two first guide slots 31 having a longitudinal axis perpendicular to the axis of the first extension portion 27. A first guide flow hole 32 is in communication with the center of the bottom of the first guide slots 31 such that the midsegment of the first guide flow hole 32 is in communication with the second axial hole 28.
The second nozzles 14 have respectively a second body 34, a second extension portion 35 and a second head 36, which are similar in construction to the first body 24, and the first extension portion 27. The second extension portion 35 is provided at the tail end thereof with the second head 36, which is in turn provided with a second guide slot 37. A second guide flow hole 38 is axially perpendicular to the second extension portion 35 and provided with two ends in communication with the bottom of the second guide slot 37.
The second heads 36 of the second nozzles 14 have different outer diameters.
The third nozzle 15 has a third body 40, a threaded hole 41 disposed in the third body 40, a third guide flow hole 42 extending upwards from the bottom of the threaded hole 41 to connect with the upper end of the third body 40, two support arms 43 of an appropriate length and extending in a parallel manner from both ends of the third body 40, a rolling shaft 44 pivoted at both ends thereof to the two support arms 43, a slightly elastic plastic strip 45 of an appropriate length and extending outwards from the side of the third body 40 and having an enlarged end, and a protruded body 46 formed integrally with the enlarged end of the plastic strip 45. The protruded body 46 may be placed in the third guide flow hole 42 at such time when the third nozzle 15 is not in use.
The kit bottle 16 of cylindrical construction has an open end facing upwards and having an inner diameter corresponding to the outer diameters of the first body 24 and the second body 34. A cap 47 is movably attached to the open end.
The tray 17 is made integrally of a plastic material and provided with a plurality of first projections 48 and second projections 49, which are of cylindrical construction, and with a first recess 50 and a second recess 51.
The present invention further comprises a pair of fourth nozzles 52 provided respectively with a fourth body 53 and a fourth extension portion 54, which are corresponding in construction to the first body 24 and the first extension portion 27. The fourth extension portion 54 is provided with a fourth axial hole 55.
The first nozzle 13, the second nozzles 14 and the fourth nozzles 52 are placed respectively on the corresponding first projections 48 by means of first, second and fourth bodies 24, 34 and 53. The connection member 12 and the third nozzle 15 are placed respectively on the corresponding second projections 49. The glue container 11 and the kit bottle 16 are kept respectively in the first recess 50 and the second recess 51.
Now referring to FIGS. 2-6 which illustrate the state of the present invention in use, the first nozzle 13 is shown to fasten with the connection member 12 such that the first extension portion 27 and the first head 29 of the first nozzle 13 are emerged via the through holes 22 before the connection member 12 is engaged with the neck 20 of the glue container 11. The annular fringe 26 of the first nozzle 13 is supposed to be located between the neck 20 and the connection member 12. In addition, the first axial hole 25 must be in communication with the interior of the glue container 11. The first head 29 of the first nozzle 13 is placed in an arcuate hole 61 of a wooden plate 60. The glue container 11 is squeezed appropriately as the first nozzle 13 is slowly and gradually withdrawn from the arcuate hole 61.The action of squeezing the glue container 11 causes the glue contained in the container 11 to flow to each of the first guide slots 31 via the first axial hole 25, the second axial hole 28 and the first guide flow hole 32, thereby enabling the glue to be applied evenly on the inner wall surface of the arcuate hole 61.
The application of the second nozzles 14 is generally similar to that of the first nozzle 13 described above.
However, each of the second nozzles 14 is provided with a second head 36 of cylindrical construction, thereby making the second nozzles 14 especially suitable for use in spreading the glue on the inner wall surface of a cylindrical hole 62 of the wooden plate 60. The second head 36 of each of the second nozzles 14 is provided along the circumference thereof with a second guide slot 36 through which the glue is applied evenly on the inner wall surface of the cylindrical hole 62 of the wooden plate 60.
The construction of the fourth nozzle 52 is such that the glue is let out directly from the end of the nozzle, and that the fourth nozzle 52 is suitable for use in spreading the glue evenly in a dovetail slot 63 of a wooden plate.
It is expected that a carpenter at work is interrupted at times. When such an interruption takes place, the carpenter at work can insert the first nozzle 13 (or the second and the fourth nozzles 14 and 52) into the open end of the kit bottle 16, with the first nozzle 13 remaining attached to the glue container 11, as shown in FIG. 7. The kit bottle 16 contains water, which works in conjunction with the first body 24 of the first nozzle 13 to prevent the glue in the first head 29 from becoming coagulated while the carpenter is away from the work temporarily.
As shown in FIG. 8 illustrating the use of the third nozzle 15, which is fastened to the neck 20 of the glue container 11 by means of the threaded hole 41, the rolling shaft 44 of the third nozzle 15 is rolled on the surface of the wooden plate 60 while the glue container 11 is squeezed to let out the glue via the third guide flow hole 42. The glue is then applied evenly via the rolling shaft 44 on the surface of the wooden plate 60.
The present invention further comprises a brush 18 having a fifth body 181 and a fifth extension portion 182, which are respectively similar to the first body 24 and the first extension portion 27. The fifth extension portion 182 is provided with a row of bristles 183 for use in applying the glue to a small working area.
The embodiment of the present invention described above is to be regarded in all respects as merely illustrative and not restrictive. Accordingly, the present invention may be embodied in other specific forms without deviating from the spirit thereof. The present invention is therefore to be limited only by the scope of the following appended claims.
