Abstract

A greeting card 5 has an extra envelope-bearing panel 6 attached by means of a perforation 7. The envelope may be formed in part by the extra panel (6) and in part by a further card component (8) attached thereto. Alternatively a separate envelope (14, Fig 3 not shown) may be adhered to a vestigial extra panel (6). In use, the envelope may be used to contain a monetary gift, and (subsequent to detachment along perforation 7) the card may be displayed as a conventional greetings card. <IMAGE>

Description

COMBINATION GREETING CARD AND MONEY WALLET This invention comprises a greeting card combined with a money wallet or envelope to hold cheques or banknotes which is detachable from the greeting card.

Many people wish to give money in the form of a cheque or banknotes as a gift. In order to make this more attractive it is desirable to attach a compartment or envelope to a greeting card by means of a perforation in the material from which it is made so that the recepient may detach the compartment holding the money and display the greeting card separately.

According to this invention a greeting card shall have an extra panel to those panels which comprise the greeting card and attached to this extra panel by means of an adhesive is a separate piece of card, the separate piece forming one side of an envelope and the extra panel attached to the greeting card forming the second side of an envelope. A further flap of card may be joined by a fold to the extra panel or to the separate piece of card to form a closure of the envelope. The extra panel of card is joined to the panels that comprise the greeting card by means of a weakness in the material in the form of a crease fold, perforation, score or slit enabling it to be torn or cut away from the graeting card so that the compartment or envelope containing the money may be retained separately by the recepient and the greeting card portion put on display.

In an alternative form of construction the extra panel attached to the greeting card or the separate piece of card may have further panels or flaps joined by folds in the material and folded inward and joined to the other member by adhesive to form a compartment for the purpose of holding money the whole assembly being joined to the panels of the greeting card by a weakness in the material as previously described.

In a further alternative form of construction the separate piece of card may form a complete envelope not requiring the additional panel of the greeting card as part of the enclosing of the money and is fixed to an additional panel or flap of the greeting card as a means of joining it to the greeting card. A weakness in the material as previously described enabling the greeting card and the envelope to be separated by the recepient.

Some specific embodiments of this invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 shows the panel of a greeting card 5 with an extra panel 6 joined to the panel 5 by means of a perforation 7. A separate panal of card 8 is attached to the panel 6 by means of an adhesive indicated by the shaded area 9. A closing flap 10 is attached to the panel 8 by a fold 11.

Fig. 2 shows an alternative construction in which the greeting card panel 5 is attached to the extra panel 6 by the perforation 7 with the separate card panel 8 having two inward folded panels 12 and 13 adhered to the extra panel 6 by means of adhesive 9. The flap 10 to close the envelope is attached to the separate card panel 8 by a fold 11.

Fig. 3 shows a further alternative in which a complete envelope 14 is attached by adhesive 9 to the extra panel 6 which is attached to the greeting card panel 5 by a perforation 7.

Fig. 4 is a view of the inside of the panels of a greeting card 15 and 16 with the extra panel 6 attached to the separate panel 8 by the perforation 7 and the flap 10 is held closed by a slit 17 in the extra panel 6.

Claims

CLAIMS:

1. A greeting card combined with a detachable compartment or envelope for the purpose of holding banknotes or cheques joined together by a weakness in the paper or cardboard from which it is made enabling the compartment to be separated from the greeting card so that the greeting card can be separately put on display.

2. A greeting card having an extra card panel attached by means of a weakness in the material from which it is made such as a perforation and forming one side or part of an envelope with the second side of the envelope being formed from at separate piece of card attached to the extra panel by means of an adhesive.

3. A greeting card according to claims 1 and 2 having an extra panel with further additional flaps or panels attached to the extra panel or to the separate panel of card that are folded inward and secured by adhesive between the flaps and the other panel to form an envelope or compartment to hold cheques or banknotes.

4. A greeting card having an extra panel to which is attached an envelope made of card or paper for the purpose of holding cheques or banknotes.

S. A greeting card according to all previous claims having additional panels which may be folded and secured by adhesive to form a compartment to hold cheques or banknotes that is attached to the greeting card by a weakness in the material such as a fold or perforation and is made from a single piece of paper or cardboard.

CLAIMS: 6. A greeting card according to all previous claims which has a compartment or envelope for the purpose of holding a cheque or banknotes attached to it by means of a weakness in the material from which it is made such as a crease, fold, perforation, score or slit enabling it to be removed from the greeting card by tearing or cutting so that the greeting card may be displayed separately from the compartment.

Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A greetings card/receptacle assembly having a greetings card portion formed of panels of paper or card connected in series with an additional panel which is connected via a line of weakness so that it is detachable; the receptacle being secured to or partly constituted by the additional panel and being suitable for holding banknotes or cheques; the arrangement being such that banknotes or cheques can be placed in the receptacle while it forms part of the assembly, the assembly can be given to the recipient, and the recipient can then detach the receptacle from the greetings card portion by separation along the line of weakness whereafter the greetings card portion can be displayed and the receptacle containing the banknotes or cheques can be retained separately.

2. An assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the receptacle is an envelope having one side provided by the additional panel and the second side provided by a separate piece of card which is adhered to the additional panel.

3. An assembly as claimed in claim 2, wherein there are lateral flaps provided by the additional panel or by the separate piece of card which are folded inwards to overlie the panel or card; and the adhesion to form the envelope is between the flaps and the other one of the panel and the card.

4. An assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the receptacle is an envelope of card or paper which is adhered to the additional panel.

5. An assembly as claimed in claim 1, which is made from a single piece of paper or card, said additional panel being connected to further panels which are folded over and adhered so that, together with the additional panel, they form the receptacle.

6. An assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the line of weakness is provided by a crease, score, fold perforation or slit.

7. A greetings card/receptacle assembly substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
