Description
2285054 A COMPOSITION FOR CLEANING AND POLISHING SURFACES
- SPECIFICATION
Background of the Invention Field of the Invention
The present invention refers to products for cleaning in general and. more specifically, to a composition for cleaning and polishing surfaces particularly suitable for use to clean, polish and water-proof surfaces of different types of materials, having different superficial textures, which does not require a previous cleaning or washing of the surface to be treated. Description of the Prior Art
Several products for waxing and polishing surfaces of different types of materials are currently commercially available.
These products, usually referred to as polishing waxes or polishers, however, are specifically designed for use in the cleaning and polishing of surfaces of the same material, such as metal, wood, glass, synthetic coverings, rubbers and the like, whether painted or not.
Additionally, as it is widely known by those skilled in the art, however, all these products specifically designed for use in the cleaning and polishing of surfaces, particularly those commonly used in vehicles, have a common drawback which hampers their wider use.
This drawback is the fact that these products only provide acceptable results when the surface to be treated has been previously cleaned and/or washed in order to completely remove any foreign material therefromi whereby the products known to the state of the art for treating and polishing surfaces, require a previous cleaning or washing operation in order to completely remove any foreign material from the surface to be treated.
As used in connection with the present invention, the expression "foreign material" comprises dust, dirt, grease and/or any layer of deposited material eventually formed by a long term exposure 2 of the surface to be treated to prejudicial agents, such as sun. salt water, rain. atmospherical pollution and the like. as well as spots deriving from the accidental falling of leaves and fruits from trees under which the vehicle may have been parked.
Also. some of these products have an abrasive nature, slight or not. whereby they can only be used on metallic surfaces and can not be applied on glass. rubber and plastics surfaces since a residual dirt would always appear, with a final result contrary to the desired. Summary of the Invention
Therefore. one objective of the present invention is to provide a composition for cleaning and polishing surfaces particularly suitable for use to clean and polish surfaces of different types of materials, having different superficial textures. which does not require a previous washing of the surface to be treated.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide such a composition for cleaning and polishing surfaces particularly suitable for use to clean and polish surfaces of different types of materials, having different superficial textures, which in addition to cleaning and polishing forms a water-proofing film over the surfaces.
An additional objective of the present invention is to provide such a composition for cleaning and polishing surfaces particularly suitable for use to clean and polish surfaces of different types of materials, having different superficial textures, which can be used on any type of material without causing any damage to the surface.
According to the present invention, these objectives are accomplished by the provision of a composition for cleaning and polishing surfaces, particularly suitable for use to clean, polish and water-proof surfaces of different types of materials, having different superficial textures. comprising from approximately 1.0% to approximately 1.5% in volume of hexane, from approximately 0.5% to 3 approximately 0.8% in volume of pure silicon fluid. from approximately 1. 0% to approximately 1.0% in volume of carnauba wax. from approximately 0. 5% to approximately 1.0% in volume of an aliphatic glycol solvent and water.
The composition for cleaning. polishing and water-proofing surfaces of different types of materials according to the present invention can easily clean the surface of any type of material, completely removing all foreign material therefrom while at the same time treating and polishing it to recover its original brightness. Detailed Description of the Invention
The composition for cleaning, polishing and water-proofing surfaces of different types of materials according to the present invention will be better understood from the following illustrative and non-limitative detailed description of its presently preferred method of preparation.
For preparing a final volume of 25 litres of the composition for cleaning, polishing and water-proofing surfaces according to the present invention, 750 ml of carnauba wax type 1 are initially mixed in a first reaction vessel with 2% in volume of Renex11H1, said amount being established with respect to the volume of carnauba wax. The mixture is agitated for a period of 3 to 5 minutes at a temperature of approximately 900C in order to completely solve the carnauba wax. RenexIT141 is a catalyst of the family of the tryetha well known to the state of the art, whereby it will not be described herein in greater detail.
Following this first step, the product resulting therefrom is finely screened through a filtering means in order to completely separate the essence of the carnauba wax from the solid material. The solid material precipitate filtered in this step has an absolutely neutral nature and can be easily disposed without causing any damage to the environment.
250 ml of pure silicone fluid are then mixed with 750 ml of a commercially available polishing wax in a second reaction vessel and the mixture is agitated for approximately 3 minutes. After this second step the essence of the carnauba wax is added to the mixture.
4 The above mixture of pure silicone fluid. polishing was and essence of carnauba wax is then poured into a third reaction vessel having a suitable volume, and 200 ml of hexane are added to the_ mixture. which is additionally agitated for 2 to 3 minutes.
23.5 litres of water are then poured into the third reaction vessel containing the active ingredients components of the composition according to the present invention. while it is continuously agitated in order to provide a homogeneous mixture.
In the composition for cleaning, polishing and water-proofing surfaces according to the present invention, the water added to the active components is used only to provide the final desired viscosity of the composition, and does not influence in any way the cleaning capability of the composition.
In the particular case of the composition according to the present invention. the cleaning agent is the aliphatic glycol solvent, which dissolves and removes any foreign material from the surface being treated without causing any damage thereto.
Also, in the composition according to the present invention, the hexane acts as a drying agent of any excess of humidity which may remain on the surface being treated, while the carnauba wax helps recovering the original brightness of the surface being treated.
Finally, in the composition according to the present invention, the pure silicone fluid creates a waterproofing film over the surface being treated in order to protect the surface from being impregnated with dirt or dust.
The composition for cleaning, polishing and water-proofing surfaces according to the present invention will be further explained in connection with the following non-limitative Examples, which are illustrative of the results obtained. Example 1 A composition for cleaning, polishing and water-proofing surfaces of different types of materials, having with different superficial textures, was prepared as described above. The formulation of the composition was 1. 25% in volume of hexane, 1.5% in volume of carnauba wax, 0.65% in volume of pure silicone fluid. 0.75% in volume of aliphatic glycol solvent and 95.85% in volume of water as excipient.
The composition with the above formulation was used to cleanand polish the surfaces of a vehicle. The result obtained was considered excellent with reference to the cleaning. brightness and final appearance of the vehicle. Example 2 The procedure of Example 1 was repeated. except that the 1.25% in volume of hexane were substituted by 0.8% in volume. When the composition according to Example 2 was used to clean and polish a vehicle the composition took a long time to dry. whereby the time required to apply the product was considered excessive. Example 3 The procedure of Example 1 was repeated. except that the 1.25% in volume of hexane were substituted by 2.0% in volume. When the composition according to Example 3 was used to clean and polish a vehicle the composition dried too quickly, whereby a coating layer was formed on the surface. Example 4 The procedure of Example 1 was repeated, except that the 1.5% in volume of carnauba wax were substituted by 0.8% in volume. When the composition according to Example 4 was used to clean and polish a vehicle the brightness was a far cry when compared to the brightness obtained with the composition according to Example 1. Example 5 The procedure of Example 1 was repeated, except that the 1.5% in volume of carnauba wax were substituted by 2.5% in volume. When the composition according to Example 5 was used to clean and polish a vehicle, the surfaces became excessively bright and oily, 6 Example 6
The procedure of Example 1 was repeated, except that the 0.65% in volume of the pure silicone fluid were substituted by 0.3% in volume. When the composition according to Example 6 was used to clean and polish a vehicle. a water-proofing film was not formed over the surfaces, whereby they could easily become impregnated with dust. Example 7 The procedure of Example 1 was repeated, except that the 0.65% in volume of the pure silicone fluid were substituted by 1.0% in volume. When the composition according to Example 7 was used to clean and polish a vehicle. the water-proofing film formed over the surfaces was excessively oily, which facilitated the adherence of dust to the surface. Example 8 The procedure of Example 1 was repeated. except that the 0.75% in volume of aliphatic glycol solvent were substituted by 0.3% in volume. When the composition according to Example 8 was used to clean and polish a vehicle, the surfaces were not completely clean. Example 9 The procedure of Example 1 was repeated, except that the 0.75% in volume of aliphatic glycol solvent were substituted by 1.2% in volume. When the composition according to Example 8 was used to clean and polish a vehicle, the metallic surfaces presented spots were the painting had been attacked by the solvent.
As it can be easily noticed from the above described Examples, the composition for cleaning, polishing and water-proofing surfaces according to the present invention is ideal for cleaning and polishing surfaces of different materials, whether painted or not, including wood, glass, metal and others.
Additionally, the composition for cleaning, polishing and water-proofing surfaces according to the present invention can be safely applied upon surfaces that were not previously washed or in any other way cleaned.
7 Also. the composition for cleaning. polishing and water-proofing surfaces according to the present invention, in addition to being easy to apply, helps preserving the surfaces being treated by providing a very thin water-proofing protective filmover the surfaces.
Pinally, the composition for cleaning, polishing and water-proofing surfaces according to the present invention can be safely applied upon surfaces from different types of without causing any damages to the surfaces.
Having described and illustrated with Examples the best presently contemplated way to perform the present invention. several modifications and variations will occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore. it is to be understood that the present invention is not in any way limited by the practical aspects of the above-described embodiments of the invention, and that all said modifications and variations shall be considered as within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the attached claims.
