Abstract
A support bar 1a on which reels of photographic paper (not shown) are located for unwinding has along its length three fixed roll flange supports 4, 5, 6, two of the flange supports 4 and 6 being located to allow the widest width A of paper roll which is to be processed to be mounted for unwinding and an intermediate flange support 5 being located to enable three equal widths E, F or G of roll to be mounted. <IMAGE>
Description
This invention relates to processing machines for processing rolls of photographic papers.
Rolls of photographic paper are made in a great variety of widths and in order to utilise fully expensive processing machines it is desirable that more than one roll can be processed at any one time. Rolls of photographic paper are mounted on flanged cores or reels and it is important that these flanges do not touch one another when more than one roll of photographic paper is being processed in the machine.
The purpose of the invention is to allow the maximum number and greatest possible selection of standard width rolls to be run from a pre selected and fixed minimum number of locations.
The roll flanges are located on special supports, a minimum of three being necessary, they are shaped to allow easy and correct location of the flanges in the dark.
We have prepared a processing machine wherein substantially any width of paper from the widest width which the machine can process to any combination of two widths or three widths can be mounted for processing simultaneously.
Therefore according to the present invention there is provided a processing machine for rolls of photographic paper which comprises a roll support bar on which rolls of photographic paper are located for feeding the paper into the processing machine the said roll support bar having along its length three fixed roll flange supports, two of the flange supports being located to allow the widest width of paper roll which is to be processed to be mounted for processing and an intermediate flange support located on the support bar at such a position to enable three equal widths of roll to be mounted for processing.
We have discovered that a single roll flange support only is required to mount securely a roll of paper on a flanged core. The arrangement of roll flange supports on the roll support bar enables a great variety of widths of rolls of paper to be processed simultaneously as is shown with reference to the accompanying figure which is a top plan view of a roll support bar mounted on a processing machine.
Preferably the processing machine comprises a second parallel roll support bar having three fixed roll support flanges located at exactly the same distances along the bar as they are located on the first bar.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the end of a processing apparatus showing the roll support bar.
Figure 2 is a side view of the end of the same processing machine showing the roll support bar is attached to the machine.
In both figures the same number have the same signification.
In the figures a roll support bar la is attached to a processing machine (not shown) by supports 2 located along the length of the bar are three roll flange supports 4, 5 and 6. Each roll flange support comprises a narrow portion 4a, 5c and 6a and a wider portion 4a and 5b and 6c.
Mounted between 4a and 4b is a reel 7 on which can be mounted a roll of photographic paper. Similar reels can be mounted between 5a and 5b and 6a and 6b. When a reel which carries the widest width of roll which the machine can process is mounted on the bar la, it is mounted so that the flanges of the reel abut the outermost side of flange supports 4a and 6b.
Figure 2 shows two roll support bars la and lb mounted on support 2 which is attached to a processing machine 8. Mounted on the roll support bars are two roll flange supports 4.
These supports support the flange 9 on which is mounted a roll of paper 10. The paper 12 is being fed off the roll of paper 10 by means not shown.
The capital letters on the figure serve to illustrate the great variety of widths which can be processed on the processing apparatus of the present invention without the roll supporting reels or flanges touching during the period the paper is being unwound from the reel and into the processing machine.
In one particular processing machine according to the present invention the capital letter indicate the widths which can be processed either simply or in combination.
A one width of 50.8cm (20in) B one width of 30.8cm (12in) plus one width of up to 12.7cm (5in) as
shown by letters E, F or G.
C one width of 25.4cm (lOin) plus one width of up to 20.3cm (8in) as
shown by letters D, E, F or G.
D two widths of 20.3cm (8in)
E three widths of 12.7cm (5in)
F three widths of 10.2cm (4in)
G three widths of 8.9cm (3i̇n).
This illustrates the great variety of widths of rolls of photographic paper which can be handled in the processing machine of the present invention so that the reels on which the rolls are mounted do not touch during the unwinding of the rolls into the machine.
It is to be understood that the rolls of paper when mounted on the reels do not reach the periphery of the reels thus the rolls do not touch the surfaces of flanges supports 4, 5 or 6 when the reels are supported by these flanges.
