Abstract
228,418. Braren, L. K. Dec. 6, 1923. Engraving.-A pantograph engraving machine, adapted for plane surface or plastic reproductions, comprises a parallelogrammatic linkage 1 - - 4 supported by two axes intersecting each other at right-angles, a tool 39 and tracer 13 being carried by the linkage with the tool arranged between the tracer and the supporting axes. A bracket 26 carrying the linkage, a work-table 28, and a pattern-holder 30 are all mounted in a guide 29 provided on a, frame 27. A shaft 37 fixed to the link 1 pivots about screws 17, 18 in a bracket 19 carrying a shaft 38 pivoted about screws 24, 25 in the bracket 26. A screw stop 35 in a slotted arm 32, pivoted at 33 to the bracket 19, and slidable on a stationary bolt 34, limits the depth of cutting. To balance the linkage, the links 1, 3 are extended and carry adjustable counterweights 22, 23. The links 1, 2 are tubular castings and the links 3, 4 of steel tubing, the latter being graduated to facilitate arranging the link 2 which bears marking lines for adjusting a tool-holder 9. For plastic reproductions, a bar 36, fitting with a forked end over shaft 38, serves as a gauge for adjusting the faces of the tool and tracer in line with the axis 24, 25.
