Description

1 2283288 Internally ventilated composite brake disc The present invention
relates to an internally ventilated composite brake disc for a disc brake with brake-disc rings forming air channels therebetween subdivided by transverse ribs.
A brake disc for a disc brake unit in two parts with radial air channels is known from DE-AS 11 64 761. This brake disc is subdivided into two half segments of a circle, which are connected to each other by means of bolts. The half segments are connected to the brake cup by means of further fastening means.
An object of the invention is to provide a multiple-part brake disc which is simple to produce and which ensures efficient operation while using different materials for the two brake-disc rings.
The invention provides a brake disc as claimed in Claim 1.
The advantages mainly achieved by the invention are that the two brakedisc rings may be produced from different materials in order to achieve an optimum braking effect.
2 To this end the brake-disc rings may consist of the material combination of cast iron and carbon, which are connected to a brake cup of aluminium. Either the outer brake-disc ring may consist of cast iron and the inner brake-disc ring of carbon or vice versa,.
The two brake-disc rings and the brake cup are connected together by fastening means, which comprise pins in one brake-disc ring connected to the other brake-disc ring by means of at least one bolt.
The pins are arranged in radial grooves in receiving means in one brakedisc ring and project with the free ends thereof so far inwards that they project into bores in the brake cup and secure the said brake cup accordingly. At the same time the receiving means form transverse ribs for air channels.
The manner of connecting the brake-disc rings to each other and to the brake cup reduces the stresses which arise when parts expand by differing amounts as a result of heat, so that for example the brake-disc ring of cast iron may expand radially relative to the non-expanding brake-disc ring of carbon, and so thermal-expansion cracks are prevented.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described i 3 with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a brake disc, comprising the two brake-disc rings and a brake cup with a connecting bolt and angular air channels, Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view of a further embodiment of a brake disc, comprising the two brake-disc rings and a brake cup with two connecting bolts and semi-circular air channels, Fig. 3 is a section through a connexion between the two brake-disc rings of Fig. 1 with a groove block, and Fig. 4 is a section through a connexion between the two brake-disc rings of Fig. 1 without a groove block.
In the drawings, a disc brake comprises a brake disc 1, formed by an inner brake-disc ring 2 and an outer brake-disc ring 3, and a brake cup 4.
The brake-disc rings 2 and 3 as well as the brake cup 4 are connected together by fastening means 5. The fastening means 5 comprises a pin 6, where appropriate a 4 slide block 7 and at least one fastening bolt 8.
The pin 6 is constructed in the form of an alignment pin and is held inserted in a radial groove of an integrally formed receiving means 10 of the brake-disc ring 2 or 3. The receiving means 10 extend uniformly over the entire annular area of the brake-disc rings 2 and 3, and at the same time form transverse ribs for air channels 11.
A connexion between the two brake-disc rings 2 and 3 is by means of the fastening bolt 8, which is held in bores 12 or 12, 13 in one brake-disc ring 3 and screwed into the pins 6 either directly or through the intermediary of the groove blocks 7. The pin-6 is then positioned in a longitudinal groove 14.
The brake cup 4 is secured by way of the inwardly projecting free ends 15 of the pins 6, which project into bores 20, and is connected to the two brake-disc rings 2 and 3.
As shown in greater detail in Fig. 1, the air channels 11 are angular in cross-section, while the air channels 11 in the embodiment according to Fig. 2 are semi-circular in cross-section.
Y The receiving means 10 may have either a conically converging shape as shown in Fig. 2 or the square shape as shown in Fig. 1.
The brake-disc rings 2 and 3 may be connected by means of one or more bolts 8, as shown in greater detail in Fig. 2.
The choice of material of the two brake-disc rings may be freely selected in accordance with requirements, since the possibility of connexion by way of the fastening means 5 leaves this open. The inner brake-disc ring 2 may either consist of cast iron or carbon steel. The outer brake-disc ring 3 may consists accordingly of carbon steel or cast iron. The brake cup 4 may consist of aluminium.
The embodiments shown in Figs. 1 and 2 with one or two fastening bores 12 as well as the arrangement of the air channels 11 may be changed depending upon requirements. In this way, the inner brake-disc ring 2 may be constructed merely as a disc, while the outer brake-disc ring 3 is then constructed with receiving means 10 for the fastening means 5 and air channels 11.
