Abstract

A door 10 has an opening mechanism 12, 14, 15. A device 20 is provided to prevent downward movement of bar 12 so as to prevent operation of the mechanism. The device 20 has a stop 25 on plate 23 which is pivotal at 22 to bring stop 25 beneath bar 12. A bracket 36 is secured to door 10 or 11. In this position a padlock 33 engages aligned apertures 38, 28 to hold the device 20 in door-locking position. <IMAGE>

Description

IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO SECURITY DEVICES THIS INVENTION relates to security devices.
According to this invention a security device comprises means mountable on a door, having a movable lock release mechanism, and movable between a first position in which the mechanism can be operated and a second position in which the mountable means cooperates with the mechanism to prevent operation of the mechanism.
There may be lock means for releasably locking the device in the second or both of the positions.
The movable door lock release mechanism may comprise a horizontal bar operatively connected to a bolt lock device and movable to release the bolt lock device. The bar may be movable downwards.
There may be two doors with interengaging respective bars.
The lock means may comprise an eye connected on one or both doors and cooperable with an eye on the device for receipt of a padlock hasp.
The mountable means may comprise a first member for securing to the door and a second member pivoted to the first member and movable into and out of a position in which it prevents operation of the mechanism, for example by engaging beneath the bar.
The invention includes a door having such a security device.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment with possible modifications will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a door lock device in a first position; and Fig. 2 shows the device in another position.
It is known to provide doors, typically emergency exit doors in for example cinemas and theatres, with a release or operating mechanism. Thus doors 10, 11 have pivotally mounted on them horizontal bars 12, 13 respectively. Bar 12 is connected by linkage 14 shown schematically to a bolt 15 slidable up and down and cooperating with a receiver or other device mounted adjacent the top of the door. The bolt 15 is biassed upwards in to locking engagement with the receiver by a spring (not shown). There may additionally be a further bolt 15a connected through a further link similar to link 14 to the bar 12 and arranged to cooperate with a receiver adjacent the bottom end of the door 10. The bars 12, 13 have end parts 12a 1 3a which overlap so that the bar 13 cannot be moved down unless the bar 12 can be moved down.
The arrangement is such that pivotal movement downwards of the bar 12 moves the bolts 15, 15a to detach them from engagement with the respective receiver and allow the door 10 to be opened, and if desired, downward movement of bar 13 will enable door 11 to be opened.
In the present case, a lock device 20 is provided to prevent the bar 12 being undesirably operated.
The device 20 includes a plate 21 hinged at vertical pivot 22 to a plate 23 which at its upper edge 24 carries a generally flat stop 25 and a face 26 has a horizontal extension 27 with an aperture 28. The plate 21 is secured by screws 29 to the door 10.
A plate 30 is secured by screws 31 to door 10 and has pivoted to it a bent eye 32.
In the inoperative position of Fig. 1, the plate 23 is parallel to plate 21 and the eye 32 receives the extension 27 so that the hasp of a key-operated padlock 33 can pass through aperture 28 to hold the device in the inoperative position.
When it is desired to use the device 20, for example when the cinema is empty of people, the padlock is unlocked, the plate 23 swing round so that the stop 25 is positioned underneath and close to the bar 12 in which position the aperture 28 is aligned with an aperture 38 in a bracket 36 fixed to the door 11 so that the hasp of the padlock can pass through the apertures 38, 28 releasably to lock the device 20 in the operative position of Fig. 2, in which the stop 25 prevents downward (door releasing) movement of the bar 12 and thus also prevents downward movement of the bar 13.
The bracket 36 could be fixed to the door 10. The plate 30 could be secured to door 11. The door 11 could also have a device 20. From one point of view the device 20 provides a securing mechanism for a door in two parts 10, 11.
The device 20 is simple and easy to operate.

Claims (8)
